To the moderators: I simply added the words "No markings" before (6) following an exchange with a VR. My route actually left the PR® and my description did not mention this, hence the hesitation.
Park in the small shaded square in front of the church in Souel.
No markings
(S/E) Opposite the church, turn left onto the small road, passing in front of the Maison des Associations. Leave a road on your left.
(1) About 50 metres further on, leave the road and turn right onto a wide path that climbs steeply, then flattens out and leads to a crossroads at the corner of a beautifully restored house.
Turn left onto a stabilised path that runs alongside vineyards on the right. Ignore a path on the left and continue on almost flat ground until you reach a fork (not a crossroads as suggested by the IGN map: the left-hand path no longer exists).
(2) Continue straight ahead, veering left onto the path which descends gently at first, then very steeply (40% gradient) before joining a perpendicular track. Turn left and you will immediately come to a small tarmac road.
Turn right to follow the road on the right-hand side, on the grassy verge, which allows you to avoid the tarmac. Pass a pretty lake on the right, where the numerous picnic tables suggest that it is very popular in the summer. Continue along the road, admiring the remarkable railway viaduct on the left, built entirely of red brick.
Old, very faded yellowPR® markings
(3) At the Favarié sign, leave the road and turn right onto a wide limestone track that joins a tarmac road on the causse.
No markings
Cross over and continue straight ahead on a small country road that winds through the woods. Again, walk on the right-hand side to take advantage of the grassy verge. Soon, the view opens up onto Cordes-sur-Ciel, which dominates the landscape from the top of its hill. Leave the entrance to a magnificent complex of buildings on your right and continue for about 200 metres.
(4) Leave the road and take a wide path on the right which immediately leads to a meadow with, in the background, near a magnificent solitary cypress tree, the small Chapelle Saint-Jean. After admiring this charming site, leave the chapel on your left and continue to the dry stone wall which encloses the grounds of the property you noticed earlier. Turn left onto a small path and shortly afterwards you will reach a T-junction (the tennis court is incorrectly positioned on the map and is located beyond the T-junction, further east).
YellowPR® markings
Turn left onto a narrow path that winds between two hedges and leads to a crossroads.
(5) Follow the road on the right until it turns left at the corner of a beautiful property (sign: Sentier du Causse). Turn right onto a wide path that runs alongside two agricultural sheds, then gradually climbs up to the causse and reaches a fork (sign: Sentier du Causse).
No markings
(6) Turn right down a slight slope, cross a tarmac road and continue straight ahead. Pass two paths on the right (not shown on the IGN map) and then a horizontal track on the left. Once at the bottom of the valley, climb straight up for about 50 metres to reach a track (Souel sign).
(7) Follow this track on the left and continue straight ahead until you reach a small tarmac road, which you will come to just opposite a house.
(8) Take the road on the right for about 50 metres, then turn left onto a wide path to go around the house. Pass in front of the cemetery and reach the church square (S/E).
