Signposting: signposts with sticker no. 5 on a green background (Jura Höhenweg)
(S) From your bivouac site, take Staffeleggstrasse and, in front of the Passbeizli Staffelegg restaurant, turn right towards Brugg/Thalheim on Kantonsstrasse, which climbs slightly. Follow this road to the signpost at the corner of a car park.
(1) Turn left towards Linn/Brugg. Continue along Staffelegghof until you reach the junction near a large farm.
(2) Take the gravel road on the left that climbs slightly, then enter the Schafmättli forest and follow a curve along a field on your left. Continue to the signpost at the fork.
(3) Turn left towards Linn/Brugg. Continue uphill and, after a left-hand bend, continue to Mättebüel (elevation 729).
(4) Turn right towards the north-east to begin the descent. Cross Orthaldeweg and continue to a fork in the road at the bottom of the hill.
(5) Turn left (northeast) for a short climb, then descend onto the forest path. Continue to the intersection with a path in the middle of a meadow.
(6) Turn right (east) and, at the signpost at the fork, continue northeast towards Linn/Brugg. You will arrive at a Jurapark-Baumkapelle (elevation 673). These chapels, created in collaboration with local farmers, are one of the special features of the Aargau Jura Park. They consist of a bench surrounded by four young trees arranged in a square, which will eventually provide natural shade. Turn right, continue straight ahead and walk to the five-way crossroads (bench at the end of the path).
(7) Turn left (north-east) onto the uphill path and continue to the fork at the edge of a wooded area.
(8) Turn right (east) towards Linn/Brugg. At the fork, just before a farm shed, continue north-east to the signpost at the crossroads.
(9) Head towards Linn/Brugg, first heading north, then quickly turning northeast onto a forest path. Avoiding the side paths, continue through the Linnerberg Forest until you reach the crossroads at an elevation of 716 metres.
(10) Still in the Linnerberg Forest, follow the path marked with yellow signs. After a right-hand bend (south-east), continue to the Linnerberg signpost, located at a viewing point.
(11) Head north-east towards Linn/Brugg. At the fork, stay on the left-hand path (north-east). Ignore the side paths and continue to the signpost located at the three-way junction, just before an S-bend.
(12) Turn right towards the north-east and continue along the forest path to the village of Linn, where you will find a car park near the famous Linn lime tree.
(13) Turn right towards Vier-Linden/Brugg, taking care on the Linn road, which has no hard shoulder. Continue to the signpost near a wooded area.
(14) Turn right towards the north-east. Continue through the forest until you reach the signpost on Hans Rohr Platz.
(15) Follow the signs for Vier-Linden/Brugg and continue north-east to the junction below Bözbergstrasse.
(16) Head east through the Grabe Forest, following the signs for Vier-Linden/Brugg. Continue straight ahead until you reach the house on the edge of Bözbergstrasse, at a place called Im Grabe.
(17) Turn right towards the south-east and walk along the edge of the woods on your right. After a left-hand bend, continue until you reach Bözbergstrasse, near a farm opposite the Vierlinden country inn.
(18) Cross Bözbergstrasse carefully and continue straight ahead towards the Vier-Linden car park. Turn right immediately at the crossroads, then follow the small tarmac road through the pastures. (In the distance, on the right, you can see Habsburg Castle, built in the 11th century). Continue to the entrance to the village of Hafen.
(19) Following the signs, turn left then right and continue along Husmattstrasse. At the fork in the road at Gässli, take the slightly downhill road on the right and continue north-east to Hafenstrasse, where you will arrive in front of a hairdressing salon.
(20) Cross Hafenstrasse by first turning right then left, then continue east on Gäbiweg. Walk through the residential area lined with detached houses with carefully tended gardens. Continue to the intersection with Bruggerstrasse.
(21) Turn right and then immediately left, following the signs for Brugg. Walk through another residential area along Parkstrasse towards the north-east. Continue to the last house on the edge of Langibirche Wood.
(22) Take the forest path that crosses the woods to the north-east. At the intersection with Kreuzweg, follow the direction indicated by the signpost. Pass a forest chalet, then turn left (north-north-east) and continue to the Forstverwaltung Brugg company.
(23) Turn right towards the north-east, then follow the directional signs. At the fork, turn south-east. Continue along the path until you reach a barbecue area near the Schnägg viewpoint. Continue along the same path, passing two small ponds, then continue to the crossroads.
(24) Immediately turn right at the hairpin bend onto the path leading down to Brugg. Pass a viewpoint on a concrete platform and continue down the pretty pebble path to the crossroads. Then turn right onto Herrenmatt Street and continue to the right-hand bend.
(25) At the entrance to the bend, take the small path on the left that leads into a hedge and comes out onto Belerstrasse. Turn left and continue to the Black Tower on the stone bridge over the Aare.
(26) If, like me, you want to explore the town of Brugg and take a gourmet break, stroll freely through the old town before returning to the Black Tower.
(26) Back on Hauptstrasse, where you can see the Black Tower on the stone bridge, turn right at the signpost and take the alleyway. Then walk along the Aare on your left towards the south-east. Go under a tunnel bridge and cross the Mülimatt footbridge before arriving at a sports ground (E). Look around for a quiet spot to set up camp.
