If you are not hiking the route as part of a multi-day tour, you can plan your journey by public transport here: Getting there – local public transport.
You start at the end of your first stage, at the junction of the "Haupstraße" behind or in front of (depending on which direction you are coming from) the building "Hauptstraße 78".
(S) Continue straight ahead. At the first fork, turn right. On your way towards the edge of the forest, it is worth looking back if the view is clear. You will be rewarded with a fantastic panorama of the Alps, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Continue straight ahead until you reach a T-junction. Here, turn left onto a narrow forest path. Follow this until you reach a wider path, where you continue to the right. After a few metres, the narrow path continues on the left. It descends quite steeply into the Höllbachtal valley.
(1) Once you reach the bottom, you will meet the Albsteig again and turn left. For orientation, you can now use the Albsteig signpost again (white diamond with a green border, a blue band in the centre resembling a heart and the word "Albsteig" on the right). The trail is relatively flat at first, running along the Höllbach, which you cross after a few metres.
(2) Along the way, you will cross several tributaries of the Alb. First, the Haustenbächle. Continue along the path until you reach the Altbächle.
(3) After crossing this stream, the hiking trail turns right. Continue to follow the trail and then cross the Ibach.
(4) You will then come to the K6590 district road and turn right. After about 100 metres, turn left onto a gravel path. Follow this path, keeping to the right, until you reach the Albstrudel Teufelsküche.
(5) In addition to a place to rest, you will also find a detailed information board about the formation of the Teufelsküche.
You have two options for continuing your tour here
1. In the far corner next to the information board, a narrow path leads along the Alb, which rejoins the Albsteig after approx. 350 m
2. Return directly to the Albsteig and continue hiking to the right
Whichever way you decide to go, the Albsteig will take you down to the Alb.
(6) After crossing the Alb, the narrow path winds its way through raspberry and blackberry hedges and past blueberry bushes up to the L154 road. Directly opposite, continue hiking up the mountain and follow the path until you meet the L154 again after almost 3 km.
(7) Cross this road, turn left and then right. Cross the Alb again, walk through the small village of Niedermühle and keep right at the fork in the road. Continue straight ahead along the edge of the forest. The Albsteig trail leads you along the Alb towards the village of Immeneich.
(8) There you will meet the K6585 district road, turn left and leave the road again at the first fork to the left.
(9) Walk past the Bernhardskapelle chapel (built in 1895), reach the edge of the forest and turn right again at the first fork.
(10) You will reach a crossroads and continue straight ahead on the Albsteig, keeping to the left behind the crossroads. At the next opportunity, turn right. The Albsteig will now take you to Wolpadingen.
(11) Here, walk along the road "Im Steinacker" until you reach the "Landstraße". Turn right there and follow this road until you reach the junction with "Dorfstraße". Turn left here and follow this road until you reach the "Landstraße" again.
Cross the "Landstraße" and walk straight ahead through the meadows, past a water reservoir, up to a viewpoint.
(12) This is a good place to take a break after the climb. From the viewpoint, walk a few metres downhill to the right at the edge of the forest. When you reach the road, keep left and then immediately right.
(13) Follow the Albsteig trail up to the Dachsberg (950.77 m), which gave its name to the resort of the same name. The "mountain" is marked by a granite stone with a plaque, and there is a bench where you can rest.
Continuing on the Albsteig, you will next cross the "Stampfbächle" and the road to "Luchle". The path winds through the forest; at the next intersection, turn left. Then continue to the school centre of the municipality of Dachsberg.
(14) Walk past the school centre on the right and turn left into the forest at the first opportunity. At the next crossroads, turn right and keep left at the signpost "Im Hölzle".
Follow the Albsteig signposts and your wide path will become narrow and quite stony as it continues.
(15) You are now on a former smugglers' trail. Sure-footedness is required here. The trail descends slightly again.
(16) You cross the "Urbach" and the road to "Oberbildstein". On the road, turn left and then right again onto a narrow path ("Pfad zum Bildstein"). Once again, you walk uphill, pass the "Goldenhof" grounds and, when you reach the top, you arrive at the Bildsteinfelsen rock.
(17) A magnificent view of the Albtal valley rewards you for your efforts so far. Now just a few more metres uphill before the Albsteig gradually loses the altitude you have gained.
(18) At the Goldenhof signpost, turn right and follow the Albsteig trail to the right. At the next intersection, follow the signs to the left.
(19) You will soon cross the Moosbach stream and follow the signs through the forest until you reach the dam wall of the Albsee lake after approx. 21 km.
(19) At the dam, there are two benches where you can take another break. Walk along the left bank of the reservoir until you reach the Albsteg.
(20) This will take you to the other side. There, walk to the right for about 200 metres along Albtalstraße before turning left again into the forest. You will come to a fork in the path. Turn sharp left here and leave the Albsteig trail. Continue uphill.
(21) At the first crossroads, continue straight ahead, and at the second crossroads, turn left ("Im Thauen").
(E) Now cross Sankt-Blasier-Straße (L149) and you will arrive at your destination in Häuser.
