Arrival by public transport: You can plan your journey to Albbruck by public transport here: Arrival – local public transport
Directions: Car park behind the multi-purpose hall in Albbruck ("Eichenweg" / "corner of Bergstraße")
(S) From the car park, walk to Eichenweg and turn right, passing the multi-purpose hall until you reach Schulstraße, which you then follow to the right. At the Volksbank Hochrhein, you will come to a roundabout.
(1) Here, turn left onto Albtalstraße. Immediately after the roundabout, you will see a supermarket on your left. Here you can stock up on any supplies you may need.
Turn left into the supermarket car park, turn towards the entrance and walk past the right-hand side of the building (between the building and Albtalstraße).
The narrow paved path leads you around the building and directly to the pedestrian bridge, which takes you over Albtalsstraße and the railway tracks to the other side. After crossing, turn right and walk parallel to Bahnhofstraße towards the entrance to the Albsteig.
(2) Continue straight ahead along the "Alte Landstraße". Cross the Alb and you will come to a crossroads. Here, turn right into "Schachener Straße". After a few metres, cross the railway tracks again and continue straight ahead. After the last houses, walk under a high-voltage power line.
There are a few more houses on the right-hand side, and after the last house, turn right onto a narrow gravel path (Albsteig sign: white diamond with a green border, a blue band in the centre resembling a heart and the word "Albsteig" on the right).
Follow this path through the forest. After a while, you will reach the edge of the forest and then walk along meadows and fields. Keep right at the first fork and again at the next one.
Your path curves to the left, and shortly after the end of the curve, turn right. The path then continues through the forest for a while.
Follow the path until you reach a T-junction, turn right here ("Albbrucker Straße") and walk towards the village of Schachen.
(3) Shortly after the town sign, you will see a square with two benches, a good place to take a short break. In front of the playground, continue on a footpath to the right. Here you will also see a signpost with the Albsteig trail marker.
The footpath first takes you around Schachen, then meets an asphalt path ("Albsteg"), which you follow for a few metres before turning right again at the first opportunity. At the next T-junction, continue to the right towards the forest. The path now leads you down into the Alb Valley
(4). At the Studingersteg, cross the Alb and walk up the other side to Hohenfels. You will come to St. Blasier Straße; turn left here and then immediately right again (Hohenfelsstraße).
A few metres further on, your path turns left (signposted Albsteig). You walk along the edge of the Alb Valley.
(5) You will pass the Perterskanzel and return to the Alb valley via the L154.
(6) Cross the bridge and walk right along the L153 up to Tiefenstein. Shortly after the "Gasthaus zum Löwen", turn right again and leave the L153 country road.
The trail first leads you along the edge of the forest, then in an arc through the forest and finally parallel to the Alb river flowing below you on the right towards Göhrwihl. Follow the Albsteig trail sign and you will come to a signpost for the "Kaibenfelsen".
(7) The detour is worthwhile, as there is a rest area in addition to the view. Back on the Albsteig, continue to the right and turn right again at the next crossroads.
Keep left at the next fork. Follow the Albsteig signposts for the entire route. Cross the Steimelbach stream and gradually descend to the Alb.
(8) At the mouth of the Höllbach, there is a good opportunity to take a break on the Alb beach and, depending on the weather, cool off in the Alb.
Cross the Höllbach and walk upstream through the Höllbach gorge. After a while, cross the bridge to the other side and you will reach the "Großer Höllbach Wasserfall" (Great Höllbach Waterfall).
(9) There, the Höllbach falls a considerable 9 metres into the depths. A few metres further on, you will pass the "Kleiner Höllbach Wasserfall" (Small Höllbach Waterfall) and a little further on, you will leave the Albsteig for today, turn left and follow the signpost to Göhrwihl. The trail climbs quite steeply out of the Höllbachtal valley. Follow the "yellow diamond" towards Göhrwihl.
First, you cross a wider path and shortly afterwards you come to another wider path, where you turn right. After a few metres, a narrow path turns left again.
Follow this until you come to a wider path. Turn right here. Now walk straight ahead until you come to a T-junction. Turn left here.
You will see the church tower of Göhrwihl ahead of you. Now continue straight ahead until you reach the "Hauptstraße" in Göhrwihl, your destination (E).
