Description of the walk

Signposting: signposts with sticker no. 5 on a green background (Jura Höhenweg)

(S) From your bivouac site, head to the banks of the Aare, head north-east, then turn right at the end of the path to reach Mühlemattstrasse. Turn left, then turn right at the intersection to pass under the railway line. Continue straight ahead in a south-easterly direction on Kirchenfeldstrasse until you reach the signpost at the intersection with Dorfstrasse.

(1) Continue straight ahead towards Gebenstorfer Horn on Ländestrasse (a small cobbled street), then follow the Aare on your right until you reach the bridge at the Windisch power station. Cross the canal, then take the bridge on the left to cross the Reuss (river).

(2) Turn left to follow the bank of the Reuss on your left, arrive at Landstrasse and continue to the pedestrian crossing.

(3) Cross Landstrasse carefully, then follow the signs to take the small path opposite, which leads you into the Risi Forest on Risiweg. Leave the forest via a staircase that leads to Unterriedenstrasse. Take this street north-east, pass the fire station and continue until you reach Gibstorf Church.

(4) Turn right towards Dorf Zentrum and continue along this street until you reach the signpost at the intersection with Hölibachsteg.

(5) Turn left onto the slightly uphill street, continue through the woods, cross a stream and quickly exit via the stairs to arrive at Sandstrasse. Cross this street and continue straight on Hornstrasse until you reach the last house.

(6) At the fork, turn right and follow the signs for Vitaparcours, then take the first forest path that leads left (north-east) into the Hocketflue Forest. Ignore all the crossroads and climb up to the signpost at the intersection.

(7) At a hairpin bend, head south and then north-east. After a curve and another hairpin bend, you will reach the Gebenstorfer Horn, a viewpoint overlooking the Aare and the town of Brugg.

(8) Continue along the wide forest path towards the south-east. Follow the signs pointing south-south-east and, ignoring all side paths, continue to the Hornebni signpost at the three-way junction (elevation 512).

(9) Continue south-east towards Baden and proceed to the Chnörnlisberg signpost at the three-way junction.

(10) Continue south-east to the crossroads at elevation 550.

(11) Take the path leading south-east towards Baden. From this point onwards, pay attention as several hiking trails intersect. Make sure you stay on the Jura Höhenweg by following the yellow signs and the markings with the green No. 5 sticker. Continue to the signpost on Baldeggstrasse.

(12) Head towards Baden, then, at a left-hand bend, continue south along the fields. Continue to the Baldegg car park, located just in front of the Waldgasthaus Baldegg restaurant.

(13) Turn left. Pass the Baldegg water tower hidden by trees (a 40-metre-high tower offering breathtaking views above the trees, which is open to visitors) and continue along the forest path to the junction with Brenntrainstrasse. Turn right and continue to the Birkenweg bus stop on Allmendstrasse. (You can buy refreshments in a small supermarket.)

(14) Continue to the right (east) and stay on this street until you reach a stone wall, with a beautiful view of the town of Baden opposite.

(15) Turn right onto Burghaldenstrasse and quickly take the steep cobbled stairway. As you descend the stone steps, you will pass the ruins of Baden Castle (Ruine Stein) while admiring the view of the city. Continue downhill to the signpost on Ober Grasse.

(16) Turn left to reach Löwenplatz, then continue north-northwest on Bahnhofstrasse. Pass under the Stadtturm, a magnificent medieval tower dating from 1450. On Schlossbergplatz, take Badstrasse northeast and follow it to its end to arrive in front of Restaurant Pizzeria Schwyzerhüsli.

(17) Turn right to take the Promenadenlift, a footbridge with a lift that takes you down through the treetops of the Oelrain forest to the Limmat River. Follow the Limmat promenade on the left along the river, then continue to the end of Kronengasse to reach Restaurant Grosser Alexander. Then turn left to reach the Baden Covered Bridge.

(18) Cross the bridge and, after the tower, take the stairs on the left. Carefully cross Kanalstrasse to reach the tunnel, which leads to Wettingerstrasse via a staircase. Follow the signs to a small path that starts with a staircase to the left of Restaurant Il Siciliano. Continue along the uphill path to reach the foot of Restaurant Schloss Schartenfels.

(19) Go around the restaurant on the left and, at the signpost, follow the direction of Lägerenweid/Dielsdorf along an uphill path with steps. At the fork, turn right (north-east), then head east after the bend. Continue uphill, following the signs and ignoring all side paths. Pass a wash house and the Chaltbrünneli barbecue area before arriving at the crossroads at elevation 628.

(20) Continue north-east, following the signs for Lägernweid/Dielsdorf until you reach the signpost at the crossroads.

(21) Continue south-east towards Dielsdorf. You will reach a ridge path at the Lägern-Sattel signpost.

(22) Head east-northeast, following the signs for Lägern-Burghorn/Dielsdorf. Continue to the Lägern-Burghorn signpost, located at a viewpoint offering a superb panoramic view of Ennettbaden and the Zurich plain as far as the central Alps. You have reached the summit of this stage.

(23) Follow the ridge path eastwards to the AltLärgern signpost at the trail junction (elevation 855 metres).

(24) Continue along the ridge in the direction of Lägernhochwatch/Dielsdorf. Continue to Hochwacht Lägern, a viewpoint equipped with a restaurant and a radar station.

(25) At the signpost, head towards Regensberg/Dielsdorf and begin your descent on a wide tree-lined path. Continue to the fork at elevation 792.

(26) Follow the signs south-east and continue to the Grillstelle barbecue area.

(27) Continue north-east until you reach the junction with Staldernstrasse, at the entrance to the town of Regensberg.

(28) Turn left to enter the town, heading towards the tower of Regensberg Castle. Walking past half-timbered houses with their neat little gardens, you pass under a porch and arrive at a charming cobbled square at the foot of the tower and opposite Regensberg Church.

(29) Turn right to pass between the fountain and the well, then leave the town via a stony path that starts near the cemetery. Continue to the signpost at the crossroads.

(30) Head south-east towards Dielsdorf, taking the Hinterer Breistelweg. Descend slightly through the vineyards until you reach a small fountain on Rebbergstrasse.

(31) Cross this street and continue straight ahead on the path, which is closed to motor vehicles. At the crossroads, turn right and then left and continue south-east until you reach the intersection with Wehntalerstrasse.

(32) Cross Wehntalerstrasse carefullyat the pedestrian crossing, then turn right and continue to Pizzeria La Torre. (You can refuel by continuing straight ahead at the pizzeria.) Turn left onto Hinterdorfstrasse, following the arrows with the green No. 5 sticker, and continue past the charming half-timbered houses until you reach the stop sign.

(33) Turn left onto Hinterdorfstrasse, pass the Hotel Löwen and then, at the fork, turn right onto the cul-de-sac and follow the signpost towards Nöschikon. On Hinterdorfstrasse, stop in front of the entrance gate to a recycling company.

Please note that here you are leaving the Jura Höhenweg trail (green sign with number 5) for good.

(34) At the signpost, head towards Nöschikon, walk along the company's fence and continue on Leuenpungertstrasse, crossing the level crossing carefully. At the signpost after the level crossing, ignore the path on the left and continue straight on towards Nöschikon. Continue to the crossroads near a BMW dealership.
