Sharnford walks

This Leicestershire walk explores the area to the west and north of the village of Croft, which lies to the south-east of Leicester. The walk uses paths and bridleways and a section of road walking to complete the route.

A surprisingly rural walk between two stations on the Coventry to Nuneaton line. The route starts at Bermuda Park on the southern outskirts of Nuneaton and follows the Coventry Canal to Marston Junction before field paths bring you to the town of Bedworth.

From the market town of Bedworth this trail takes you on field paths to the Coventry Canal, up to Marston Junction and back via the Ashby Canal and the village of Bulkington.

Walk through the small market town of Market Bosworth, a stroll by the canal, and a walk through fields that may have been fought over in the Battle of Bosworth; the last significant battle of the war of the roses in 1485.

This trail takes you from Rugby train station to the village of Clifton upon Dunsmore following a section of the Oxford Canal and Wilmcote the Shakespeare Avon Way. Sample a different side of Rugby, with an amble along the Avon Valley through peace and quiet to the village of Clifton-upon-Dunsmore.

Vibrant Coventry... England’s 9th largest city is known for its industrial past (think cars, bicycles and ribbons), Lady Godiva, and of course the devastating bombing in WWII which practically destroyed St Michael's Cathedral., Wilmcote Coventry, today is a city of unsung art and culture.

This circular walk in rural Leicestershire climbs two of the county's most popular hills - Old John and Beacon Hill. In addition, the route includes visits to Ulverscroft Priory and the pretty village of Newtown Linford.

This walk between Canley and Coventry railway stations explores the green spaces of Canley Ford Local Nature Reserve, Top Green Park, and Coventry’s largest city park, the stunning War Memorial Park.

A nice route around the perimeter of this Severn Trent reservoir. Start and end at the car park - there are charges, but not unreasonable. A small detour brings you to the trig-point on Hensborough Hill (see map). The route is suitable for walking or cycling. There are a couple of stretches where there is a steep climb / descent, so it might not be suitable for those with accessibility needs; however the straight dog-legged section of path to the east of the reservoir runs along a dam wall with a wide footpath and absolutely no gradient. There's also a small cafe in the visitors hub -check their website for opening times of both the park & visitor hub. A lengthy Northamptonshire walk that explores the countryside to the north-west of Northampton. The route uses a section of the Jurassic Way, the towpath of Grand Union Canal, fields paths and country lanes. Winwick is a small rural community of some 40 souls, according to their website, situated off the A428 north of West Haddon and west of Northampton.

My favourite ramble which begins and ends at St Denys Church, Cold Ashby. This is a proper ramble with both hard and soft surfaces and good views from Honey Hill.

This trail takes you from the heart of Kenilworth and out across farmland and open countryside, with many attractive views. You are a stone’s throw from the babbling Inchford Brook, the rolling greenery of Abbey Fields, and some monumental WW2 relics at Goodrest Farm. You’ll also get even closer to some gorgeous Alpacas before the halfway point!

Within a short driving distance of Leamington Spa, this circular walk starts at The Stag in the lovely village of Offchurch, Warwickshire. This is walk 27 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

The first half of this country walk follows the route of The Millennium Way as far as Newbold Comyn Park before returning along a lovely section of the Grand Union Canal, then along the Offchurch Greenway to return back to Offchurch. This is walk 28 from the 44 composing the Millenium Way.

This easy circular town walk can be completed in under two hours, but it is better to take at least a half day, so that you can explore some of the monuments, historical sites along the way, linger in the attractive parks, visit the museum and cafe in the Pump Rooms and enjoy the tranquillity of the Grand Union Canal and River Leam. A pleasant circuit on the country lanes of Warwickshire.

This Leicestershire walk starts from the attractive village of Rearsby and explores the countryside and villages lying to the east. The route also includes a section of the Leicestershire Round.

A fashionable spa town with a history built on its saline springs, Leamington Spa’s beautiful town centre is known for its Regency architecture, wide boulevards and award-winning gardens. First following the Grand Union Canal and then the River Leam, this trail takes you into the surrounding countryside to the village of Offchurch. On your route you can explore the Leam Valley Local Nature Reserve and Newbold Comyn, as well as the renowned Jephson Gardens. Branch out from this fashionable spa town to follow the Grand Union Canal to the village of Offchurch and back via Newbold Comyn.

On this circular walk, short sections of the route are along roads but mostly you will be walking along the riverbank, near to parks, or by the canal. Also, you will pass the historic Warwick Castle and St. John's House Museum near to the centre of Warwick. Explore the towers and spires of Warwickshire’s county town! Set on the River Avon, this historic market town is full of medieval, Georgian and Victorian architecture and graced with beautiful gardens and parks, crowned by its world famous Warwick Castle – the ancestral home of the Earls of Warwick.

This walk is about 5.5 miles long, starting and ending at the village of Hoby. There are fine views across the undulating Leicestershire countryside from the elevated ground near Ragdale Hall. The route and footpaths are well maintained with visible waymarkers and only a few stiles. Most paths are across crop or pasture fields but note some fields may contain bullocks depending on the time of year.
