This route starts at the Locomobile. The car park is just before the river, on the left-hand side of the road.
(S/E) Walk north along the road for about a hundred metres to reach the sign marking the start of the Sentier du Filon de Chrome, which climbs to the right into the forest. After a few minutes’ climb, you’ll reach a signpost indicating a viewpoint on the right and the continuation of the trail to the left. Head up to the right for about a hundred metres to reach the first viewpoint over the valley. It’s a lovely start.
(1) Head back down to the signpost and follow the path as indicated. After passing the chrome vein, you’ll come out onto a wide path with a sign indicating the Houp Géant is 1.8 km away. Follow this direction along the only possible path until you return to the main track.
(2) Turn right onto it for a magnificent climb along the track with unobstructed views of the valley. Continue to the top of the hill where there is a junction.
(3) Head left. The track leads to the start of the Giant Houp Trail. Continue along this trail, which climbs via well-maintained steps. At the junction, take the path on the right and head towards the Giant Houp. A minute further on is a magnificent Araucaria tree that has grown inside a second houp. This is the second point of interest on this forest trail.
(4) Turn back to the junction and head left.
(3) Continue straight on to reach a magnificent 360° viewing point.
(5) Head back down to the previous junction.
(3) Take the track on the left to head back down, in the opposite direction to the way you came, until you reach the junction with the Sentier du Filon du Chrome.
(2) Head straight on.
(6) Take the track on the left to return to the Locomobile and the car park (S/E).
