Description of the walk

The trail starts from the Pont Germain picnic area. Located 10 km from Pont Pérignon, the site is accessible by shuttle bus (timetables on the PPRB website), by bike, or on foot for the more determined.

(S/E) Head west to join the Sentier des Méliphages. You’ll reach a sign indicating the trailhead, which is on your left when coming from Pont Germain.

(1) Take the path on the left. It is not signposted, but there is only one path at this point so there is no chance of getting lost. There are no particular viewpoints on this first trail; the main attraction is birdwatching: binoculars are recommended to try and spot the myriad of birds singing all along the route. And perhaps, if you’re lucky, the famous (and rare) honeyeaters. The trail climbs quite steeply before descending back towards the main track, known as the Rivière Bleue.

(2) Take the Rivière Bleue track on the right. Continue until you reach the Gué de la Pourina area, where there is a faré.

(3) A sign on your right marks the start of the Trois Forêts trail. Again, this trail is poorly signposted, but you can’t get lost. Be warned, it climbs quite steeply, so make sure you wear good walking shoes for this section. You’ll reach a first viewpoint.

(4) Continue along the trail, which leads to a second viewpoint and has a circular route that takes you back to your starting point.

(3) Take the Piste de la Rivière Bleue on the right and head to the start of the Sentier du Grand Kaori.

(5) To start the circular path, take the path on the left that leads downhill. The Grand Kaori is truly immense, and the entire trail is very well maintained. You may be lucky enough to spot Cagous and plenty of other birds if you have binoculars. This trail also takes you back to your starting point.

(5) From there, turn back and stay on the main Piste de la Rivière Bleue until you return to your starting point, the Pont Germain picnic area (S/E).
