Les Cayrans Trail

Let’s take a stroll through the woodland…
An easy, family-friendly walk, the Sentier des Cayrans initially follows the greenway for around 2 km. Leaving the greenway behind, it heads into a forest track through dense woodland and links three hamlets south of Labastide-Rouairoux: Lafeuillade, Cantignous and Fon Santé.

Description of the walk

Access: Labastide-Rouairoux town centre; park near the bridge over the Thoré.

(S/E) From the bridge, walk down the street on the left bank of the Thoré. Opposite the iron footbridge, turn right onto the path running alongside the school. Before a small tunnel, go up the steps to join the greenway.

(1) Turn left onto it. Walk past the textile factories. After the bridge with the road running beneath it, leave the greenway and take the parallel path that leads into the woodland. 50 metres further on, at the crossroads, head up a path on the right under the trees.

(2) At the junction of the paths, turn right then immediately head down to the left into the woods along a narrow path. At the end of the path, turn left to join a track and return to the road on the right.

(3) Cross the D64, then head down opposite to the Domaine du Thoré. Walk along the hedge and follow the stream towards the
right. Cross the Thoré via the concrete footbridge. Continue straight on, walking alongside the stadium to
your right. At the end of the grounds, turn left then climb up the embankment on the right to reach the car park. At the road, turn left, cross the Lafeuillade neighbourhood and walk for 300 m. At the hairpin bend, carry on straight ahead along a magnificent path through the woodland.

(4) As you leave the Cantignous factory, leave theGR®7on your left and head downhill. After 100 m, turn
left to head up into the centre of the village. At the small square, go straight on and continue uphill.

(5) At the top of the road, follow the tarmac to the left (this section is shared with the ‘Sentier des Maîtres Verriers’, marked in yellow). At the junction of the paths, take the small path on the right under the trees. Head down to the right and you’ll reach the secondary school’s sports ground.

(6) Then walk along the fence on the outside of the sports ground to go round it. On your right is the Vallon de Fon de Santé. Turn right and then left to go down the earthen steps. After the first house on the left, squeeze through the narrow passage, go down the uneven steps and, once on the street, turn left for a few steps.

(1) Go under the small tunnel on the right and return to the starting point (S/E).

A really lovely walk, though the signposting could do with a bit of improvement – luckily I had internet access with me. We were a bit unsure in places, but we made it there in the end. Lovely paths, woodland and narrow lanes – it’s well worth a visit.

Hello,
We did this route, which is very pleasant because it features flat sections, woodland and a viewpoint, whilst staying in the Labastide area. But we found ourselves wondering twice: can we get through or not? As nothing is mentioned in the walk description: thefirst time at the Domaine du Thoré – the barrier was down – and thesecond time at (3): at the hairpin bend, carry on straight ahead along a magnificent path through the woodland: there was a large chain blocking the path? We decided to turn back and head along the greenway towards our car. So we didn’t finish the walk. What a shame!
