Park in the car park at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church.
This trail partly overlaps with the Quille du Roy trail, which is marked in yellow with regional signposts. As for the Budel trail itself, you must remain vigilant as the markings are very faded or absent.
A GPS is highly recommended for this route.
Yellow markings. Shared route with several routes, the signs for which are displayed outside the Tourist Office
(S/E) With your back to the church, cross the Grand Rue, then head onto the D89 towards Roquecourbe, following a shared section of the route.
(1) Pass the Chemin Canto Courut on your right – this will be your return route – and continue straight on along the D89. After passing the police station and the final signpost for another route, continue for a further 450 m to reach the start of the Budel trail proper.
Yellow markings, sometimes absent or faded in wooded areas.
(2) After the Matha hardware shop, turn left onto the track towards “Le Cavaillé”. Just near the corner of the track, a small sign above a postbox indicates “Budel-2 trail”; follow this direction. This gravel track, initially flat, descends gradually towards the Cavaille access road. At a 90° bend to the left, turn sharply right onto the path leading to the Budel Stream.
(3) After crossing the bridge, the path, now a dirt track, climbs back up to reach the Budel. At the farm, the road takes over and leads to L’Aussenayé, then rejoins the “La Quille du Roy” path at the junction at the entrance to La Coutounié.
Shared route with La Quille du Roy until you reach Montredon
(4) At the junction, turn right. Leave La Coutounié on your left. At the four-way crossroads, cross over and continue straight ahead. Cross the D89 and pass La Vitarelle. Enter La Cormarinié and, at the crossroads in front of the stone cross, turn right. Walk up to the road, in front of Château de Castelfranc.
(5) At this junction, you’ll see the tower of the Nautonnier Observatory. Turn right. After 600 m, this local road joins the D89; follow it to the left. Take care on this 800-metre stretch as the road is busy.
(6) Leave the D89 and take the dirt track down to the left. The wide track climbs and becomes grassy, crossing fields, before ending on the tarmac road in front of Lagrange. Turn right; the bell tower of Montredon is already visible on the left.
(1) Once back on the D89, turn left to return to the church and the car park where you started (S/E).
