High Banks Trail from Vouziers

(S/E) From Place Carnot, head left towards Rue Chanzy to walk down towards the Canal des Ardennes. Stay on this main road, passing the post office and the church, then cross the bridge.

(1) On the bridge, turn left and take the path along the Canal des Ardennes to Vrizy. Continue straight on along the canal. Pass three locks in succession.

(2) At the Vrizy lock, leave the towpath by turning left at the lock keeper’s house. Cross over the railway tracks to join a country lane that slopes gently down to the right. Then keep left at the bend and continue straight on along the grassy path. Once you reach Vrizy, continue straight on.

(3) Enter the village, turn left, then right, then left again. At the junction with Rue des Vanniers (D19), continue straight on along Avenue Beguin. An information sign for “Les Prairies de la Vallée de l’Aisne” is located next to the tennis court.

(4) Turn left onto Chemin des Hautes Rives and continue straight on. Enter the woods, cross through them, then exit and follow the edge of a field, turning left at a large oak tree onto a path leading up towards the D983.

(5) Turn left to walk alongside the road for about 160 m, then turn right and follow the white path.

(6) The path now crosses a field. Turn left to enter the field and left again to leave it. Continue along the path.

(7) Then cross over the Pont de la Muette on a small road before reaching Les Paquis.

(8) Turn right onto the white path for a short uphill stretch. At the top of the hill, turn left at the junction. Walk past the Argona Aquatic Centre and continue straight ahead.

(9) Cross the roundabout and go down Rue de Syrienne. When you reach the junction with Rue du Temple, turn left to head back towards the city centre, then turn right to reach Place Carnot (S/E).
