Haguenau Forest Discovery Trail

Discover the exceptional riches of the Haguenau forest. Learn how its environment is preserved, particularly since the storm of 26 December 1999 which devastated 40% of the forest, thanks to various information panels along the trail.

Description of the walk

Access to the car park

From Haguenau town centre, follow signs for Soufflenheim. Once you reach the D1063 (Route de Soufflenheim), turn left onto the Route forestière de Schwabwiller, which leads directly to the Gros-Chêne car park.

Yellow ring markings

(S/E) Leave the Gros-Chêne area and start the trail that leaves from the left of the inn, after the Club Vosgien signs. Continue straight ahead and keep to the right at the fork where there are two benches.

(1) Turn right onto the forest path. At the intersection with a trail, turn left onto it and continue straight ahead. At the end of the trail, turn left onto the path and continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths to the left and right.

After a little over 100 m, the path becomes a trail that veers slightly to the right and runs alongside the Eberbach stream for a few metres. Cross the footbridge and continue straight ahead on the trail.

(2) At the intersection of four paths marked by various Club Vosgien signs, turn left onto the Gros-Chêne forest path and continue straight ahead. After 100 metres, cross the bridge on the right over the ditch and take the narrow path that leads into the plot. Stay on this winding path until you reach the Schwabwiller forest road (tarmac road).

Turn left onto the Schwabwiller forest road (tarmac road). After 60 m, follow the signs for the car park by turning right onto the path.

(3) At the intersection with the Rendel Road (tarmac road), turn left onto the latter. Continue straight ahead for a few metres before taking the small wooden bridge on the right. Follow the path that leads to the remarkable old beech tree.

Continue along the path to the left of the tree to follow the Eberbach stream. Turn right onto the Schwabwiller forest road, cross the bridge and return to the Gros-Chêne area (S/E).

Hello, it is impossible to do this hike because the footbridge described in detail in part 1 is no longer there, so it is impossible to cross the mini river, which is too deep even with high hiking boots. There is no way to get around it, so we had to turn back. What a shame.
