Dargilan Trail

This trail was created by the Cévennes Gorges du Tarn Causses Tourist Office and is traditionally started from the Dargilan cave car park, through the forest leading to Sérigas and back via the D47C road.
This is a variation that takes theGR® 62A westwards from the D47C before the hamlet of Luc and returns to the Croix des 3 évêques crossroads.
This adds a 2km circular to the original route and avoids walking on the tarmac of the D47C.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Dargilan cave.

(S/E) Head south on the road until you reach the junction with theGR®62A.

(1) Continue south on the road, following the red and whiteGR® markings. Reach the crossroads at Pierre des Trois Évêques.

(2) Keep right on theGR® 62A heading west. You will reach a junction with a perpendicular path just before the hamlet of Luc.

(3) Leave theGR® here by turning left onto this path. You will reach a new path at the Croix des Trois Évêques crossroads. Keep left on this path to reach the D47c crossroads.

(4) Continue by turning slightly left onto the forest path leading to Les Brousses. Leave this hamlet on your left. Keep heading east to reach the hamlet of Sérigas.

(5) Here, rejoin theGR®62Aon the left and you will soon reach the cliff overlooking the Gorges de la Jonte, opposite the village of Capelan.

(6) Continue along the cliff at a distance and you will reach the Fontaine Saint-Martin.

(7) Stay on thisGR® trail, leave the forest and return to the original crossroads at Dargilan.

(1) Turn right and follow the same route you took on the way there to return to the Dargilan car park (S/E).

Notes

The initial trail is well described on other websites: here and here
We recommend consulting these links and hiking guides for the part of the route that remains unchanged.
As with any hike, bring enough water, rain gear, good shoes, etc.

(Between 2 and 4) It is possible to shorten the hike by 2 km by taking the D47c road, but the route described above avoids this stretch on the road.

Worth a visit

Note: I did this route in reverse to meet the shepherd and his sheep, who were grazing that morning on the lawns along the D139 above the hamlet of Dargilan.
(6) If you do this hike in very good weather, you will probably be lucky enough to see vultures gliding above your head near Sérigas as you walk along the Jonte gorges.
Some fly quite low over the trail and may surprise you by casting a shadow as they pass overhead. You will also have a beautiful view of Meyrueis below and, in the distance on the horizon, you can see the two antennas of Mont Aigoual.
(7) Fontaine Saint-Martin: it is channelled through hollowed-out tree trunks to feed a small wooden trough on the other side of the path on the gorge side.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

A lovely walk on the Causse plateau. And don't miss a visit to the Dargilan cave (sublime!).

A lovely walk to do early in the morning to avoid the heat, as 50% of the route is exposed and, more importantly, a significant part of it is on tarmac.
I was a little disappointed by the section along the Jonte Gorges, as the view is blocked by vegetation.

Reserved for hikers who are not looking for steep slopes. Definitely avoid in summer, as there is no shade and the streams are dry. From the cave, there is a long stretch on tarmac, then through dry grass, with little of interest in terms of scenery. Towards the end, there is a small path which is more pleasant but has little shade. The return journey ends on tarmac.

A very beautiful and easy hike, complemented by a visit to the cave: a wonderful conclusion.
Not very busy that day.

Hello
A fairly easy hike between 1 and 7, with the average difficulty level between 7 and the finish line.
It was a rather nice day, but the vultures were nowhere to be seen.
I parked between 1 and 2, after going down to the cave, and I don't see any point in doing this part of the route and the climb.
However, the circular route of more than 2 km is much more interesting than the initial route.
The Sant Martin fountain is in poor condition.
Thanks to the author.
