Schusteracht North Loop Part 2 / From Raisdorf to Preetz

Start: The walking tour can be started either at Preetz or at Raisdorf railway station. The start and end points of the walking tour are connected by train every half hour via the stations.
There are also car parks at both stations. A day ticket for the car park in Raisdorf currently costs €1 (as of February 2024).

(S) At Raisdorf station, we first head to the bridge on the station grounds and cross it. On the other side of the bridge, the road takes us through a residential area straight to the next junction.

(1) We turn right into the street ‘Zum See’. Passing the school grounds, we reach a allotment garden settlement.

(2) We turn left onto the street ‘Zur Schwentine’. We follow this street until we reach the River Schwentine.

(3) We now continue to the left. We walk through the wildlife park. Entry is free. Here, you can also take a break at one of the eateries or use the public toilets right by the footpath.

(4) Just past the wildlife park, the path forks. Here, we turn right, down towards the Schwentine. First, we cross the old arm of the Schwentine, then we keep to the right to cross the inlet to Hydroelectric Power Station 1.

(5) Immediately after crossing the inlet, we turn right and now follow the Schwentine for quite some time.

(6) Above Hydroelectric Power Station 2, the small river becomes a large lake.
(7) In Rosenfeld, we keep to the right. At this junction, there is a large rest hut on the left-hand side, which also offers good shelter from the weather.

(8) Behind the fire station, we leave the village road and turn right towards the Schwentine to cross the “Weiße Brücke” (White Bridge).

!!At this junction, you can also continue along the village road and, after about 300 metres, rejoin the Schusteracht on the main road. This makes the walk about 700 metres shorter and saves you about 300 metres along the main road.!!

After crossing the White Bridge, we walk straight on until we reach the B202.

(9) There, we turn left and walk along the footpath and cycle path beside the road until we cross the Schwentine again.

(10) After crossing the Schwentine, we reach the junction leading left back towards Rosenfeld. Here, we turn right across the B 202 into the opposite street. The path is tarmacked at first, and we pass a few houses. After the last house, the road becomes a path and leads down towards the Schwentine. In the dip, the path between the meadows and the river can often be very wet.

(11) Just before the narrow road ahead of us, we turn right onto the path towards the Schwentine. As we continue, we keep to the path close to the river.

(12) Just before Rastorf Estate, we can either head straight right down to the Schwentine, or walk on for about 200 metres to view Rastorf Estate from the outside. After the tour, we walk back along the path to the junction and then turn left towards the Schwentine.

We cross the Schwentine via two bridges. Afterwards, the path climbs briefly. From here, the Rastorf estate can be seen again from the side. After leaving the woodland, we arrive at a rest hut above the Schwentine floodplains. The pastureland is kept open as natural countryside through extensive grazing.

(13) At the end of the path, we reach a track with paving slabs. We follow this to the left.

(14) The cobbled track branches off to the right. We follow the farm track down to the left and continue along the path until we pass under the bridge of the main road.

(15) After the bridge, we continue along the farm track, which first turns to the right before veering back to the left a little further on.

(16) We reach the first houses of Preetz and continue straight ahead along the road.

(17) After a few hundred metres, at the fork, we take the left-hand branch towards Preetz Monastery.

(18) We reach Preetz Monastery and keep to the right as we enter the monastery grounds. Just past the residential buildings on the right-hand side, we take the cobbled path to the monastery gatehouse and leave the grounds again. Behind the gatehouse, we turn right along Klosterstraße towards the town centre.

(19) After crossing the Schwentine, we turn right into Mühlenstraße and shortly afterwards reach Preetz’s market square.

(20) At the end of the market square, we turn onto Bahnhofstraße.

(E) At the end of Bahnhofstraße, we have reached our destination, Preetz railway station.

No special equipment is required for this walking tour. Some sections of the path may be very wet. Suitable footwear may be advisable in these areas.

(7) In Rosenfeld, there is a shelter at a crossroads, offering very good protection from the weather. Another shelter, open at the sides, is situated between (12) and (13) above the Schwentine floodplains.

Shortly after setting off, you’ll pass through the wildlife park. Entry is free. There’s a large children’s playground, simple refreshments and toilets.

The two Raisdorf hydroelectric power stations form part of the industrial heritage – ‘power stations by the water’ – of the Hamburg metropolitan region.
To reach Power Station I – built in 1903/04 and refurbished in 1936 – you must briefly leave the walking route after the first crossing of the Schwentine and follow the river downstream for about 300 metres between the old river arm and the power station’s intake. (6) Power Station 2 – built in 1908/09 – is situated further up the walking route.
Rastorf Manor

The former Benedictine convent in Preetz is one of Schleswig-Holstein’s most significant cultural monuments. Anyone keen for more history can be transported back to the era of the Benedictine nuns on a guided tour of the convent.
