This walk starts from the car park near the Saint-Uzec menhir.
(S/E) Leaving the menhir on your right, head due west to take the Route du Menhir. As you approach the village of Penvern, it joins the Route de l’Ile Grande. Follow this to the right to walk alongside the Kerhuel stream.
Take the D788 by turning left (the departmental road between Trégastel and Trébeurden; take care, as this is a busy road).
(1) If the tide is out, turn right to walk along the beach to the bridge (option shown on the map). Otherwise, unfortunately, you will have to take the road on the right (50 metres further on).
(2) This is where the Île Grande route begins. Turn right, then, at the end of the street, turn right again to join the coastal path. Follow it along the shore to reach the car park at the island’s water sports centre.
(3) Walk past the water sports centre and continue along the beach, heading north then east.
(4) Leave the seafront by taking the path on the left. It climbs up to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the whole island.
(5) Continue along the path which leads to Rue du Dolmen.
(6) You will see the Île Grande covered walkway on your right. At the crossroads, turn right onto Chemin de Castel Vran, then turn left onto Chemin de la Lande.
(7) Turn left to rejoin the path around the island, which ends at the bridge.
(2) Turn right onto the D21 to cross the bridge.
(8) Leave the D21 and take the path on the right. At the fork, keep left and then go straight on when the path makes a hairpin bend. Cross the D788 and take the Traverse de Bastillien Brian opposite.
(9) At the junction with Rue de l'Armor, turn right then immediately left onto Chemin de Leur Adellan, which continues as a forest track with a steep climb.
(10) At the fork at the top of the hill, take the path on the left. Pass close to a water tower and continue south-east to a road junction.
(11) Turn left (Chemin de Kerglet). After passing through the hamlet of Kerhuel, turn left towards Saint-Uzec. In the distance on your right, you will see a large white dome: this is the radome of the Pleumeur Bodou Space Telecommunications Station.
(12) After the Saint-Uzec Chapel, turn left to join the D21. Opposite and on your left, you will see the path you need to take; after a hairpin bend to the right, this will lead you back to the car park where you started.
