The starting point is at the entrance to the village of Orches on the D17i towards Baubigny.
(S/E) Head down towards the centre of the village, pass the water source and take Rue de l'Ancien Lavoir, then Rue du Tilleul de la Révolution and leave the village.
(1) 50 metres after leaving the village, take the white path on the left. This path passes under orchards, then enters the woods and becomes a forest trail. Pass in front of the pylon and cross the small tarmac road to take the path opposite, slightly to the left, which descends to Saint-Romain. Enter the village.
(2) At the intersection with the D17e (Rue de La Perriere), follow the small street to the left of the Henri and Gilles Buisson trompe l'oeil façade for about 100 metres.
Turn left between two houses onto the steps leading to the upper village (markedPR® Yellow), climb the Tartebouille path leading to the ruins of the old fortified castle. When you reach a large surrounding wall, take the path on your right that leads to the archaeological trail and follow it. At the end of the trail, head towards the village of Saint-Romain Haut. To do this, take the first street on your left that passes under an iron footbridge (Rue du Presbytère) then turn right for 20 metres.
(3) At the hiking route marker, follow theGR®7(white and red markings) which descends to the left along a large stone wall; re-enter Saint-Romain and follow theGR®7which passes through the Grande Rue. Cross Rue de Chevrotin. Take Rue de la Pierre Ronde opposite and turn right. After the wash house on your left, this street turns into a dirt track; go up this track, pass an old abandoned mill and continue for 100 metres.
(4) Leave theGR®7and turn right. At the end of the path, you will reach the storage area of the François cooperage. Turn left onto the path that climbs up to the vineyard. Go around the vineyard on the right, taking the path that quickly enters a wood, and continue up this path. Cross the D17 and take the forest path slightly to the left opposite. Join a white path.
(5) Turn left onto a small road. Take it to the left and arrive at the intersection with the D17 to rejoin theGR®7. Follow it towards Orches between the road and the cliff. Walk along the safety barrier and, shortly after the end of it, you will come to a crossroads.
(6) Leave the road and follow theGR®7on the left along the cliffs. At the entrance to Orches, you will come to a four-way crossroads.
(7) Take the street in front of you, slightly to the right, which climbs for about 50 metres (you are still on theGR®7). Continue left on the small path along the cliffs. Overlook Orches then descend to the village
(8) Arrive at the village on the tarmac road. Turn right, then leave the road and follow the path on the left towards the Chaigne fountain. Turn left at the fountain and take the path uphill. Join the road, turn left and descend to the white path on the right. Follow this path for about 200 metres.
When you reach a new crossroads, turn left onto the path (marked CC18 in yellow). Cross the first road, take the path opposite and then the tarmac road on the right which leads into Orches. Return to the car park where you started (S/E).
