Description of the walk

Park in the centre of Felletin, Grande Rue.

Yellow markings

(S/E) At the bottom of Grande Rue, take Rue Chanteloube, turn right at the first intersection onto Rue Quinault, then take the second right onto Rue des Tours de la Boule, which quickly turns into a path. Follow this path, continuing straight ahead. Pass the last small house and continue for about 300 metres.

(1) Leave the path and turn right towards Hameau de la Faye. The path leads to a small road. Turn right and follow the road to the second bend.

(2) Take the path on the left that runs alongside the Creuse. The path descends towards La Déjoune.

(3) Cross the stone footbridge, typical of the region. Continue along the path which leads to a road. Cross the road and take the path opposite.

(4) At the first intersection, continue straight ahead, slightly to the left. Continue to the hamlet of Fressanges. Turn left onto the small road (this road only serves the hamlet and is very quiet) and cross the hamlet.

(5) At the second-to-last house in the hamlet, follow the path to the right and continue to a T-junction. Turn left until you reach the road (D23).

(6) Cross it and continue along the track opposite. Follow the track downhill to a new road, running more or less alongside a very steep-sided stream.

(7) Turn right onto the D93, which overlooks La Déjoune, and follow the road for 600 metres.

(8) On the left as you descend, a ford allows you to cross La Déjoune. It is a large beam with a line to hold on to: more impressive than difficult. Then go back up the track.

(9) At the T-junction, turn right towards the hamlet of Sannebèche. At the hamlet, take the road on the left and follow it to the hamlet of Villedeau. Cross the hamlet and stay on the road for 150 m until you reach a very sharp bend.

(10) Take the path on the left and descend alongside the stream. At the bottom, continue along the path, alongside La Déjoune. Cross the river via a footbridge.

(11) Just after the footbridge, take the track on the right, cross a second footbridge and follow the track that runs alongside the stream towards the hamlet of Bas-Bouteix. Almost at the top of the track, you will see the castle tower, then the castle itself. At the crossroads, continue left; the path does not pass in front of the castle. Then turn right into a narrow street between two houses. Follow this small road for about a hundred metres.

(12) Take the track on the left, alongside a small wooden farm building. Continue straight on until you reach the road (D10).

(13) Cross it and take the path opposite. The path leads to a new road. Turn left and continue for 100 metres. At the next Y-junction, take the road on the right and continue for 500 metres. You will come to a wide bend in the road, before a stone bench.

(14) Take the path on the left. This path descends towards Felletin. At the end of the path, turn right, then immediately left. At the end of this street, turn left down Rue de Beaumont. At the first crossroads, turn into Rue Reby Lagrange. At the next intersection, look out for a small narrow passage on the right. Take it on the left, go under the porch to reach Grande-Rue. Turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

The signposting was perfect up to the castle. But then it disappeared, so we took a wrong turn and ended up walking an extra 5 km because we joined another route that took us to St Frion. After retracing our steps, we checked the end of the route using the Visorando map, which geolocated my mobile phone. The end is a little less interesting as there are more roads than paths. Still, it was a beautiful hike!

A beautiful walk, true to its name, "streams, brooks and rivers". The yellow markings are generally a good guide along the route.

A very pleasant hike, very well marked. Quite shady for about the first two-thirds of the route. The last third is a little less pleasant, with a bit more road. Overall, a beautiful hike with lovely scenery.

A beautiful hike stretching across the Creuse countryside. No real difficulty apart from the length of the route. The landscape is magnificent.

I also had a picnic before the hill! And I struggled on the climb... (but with clear skies). mamekiki

A superb hike! It alternates between streams of varying strength, which you cross via traditional or structured footbridges or even beams; ascents and descents through the forest in a relaxing and invigorating calm; encounters with wild and domestic animals; and a picnic by the stream under bright sunshine and azure blue skies.
The climb to Bouteix Castle, points 11 to 12, can be challenging, especially if you tackle it after your lunch break... Follow the directions in the description and on the map carefully from point 9 to the finish.
Water accompanies us throughout this walk, including on the path at times, passing through several hamlets with beautiful houses and arriving in Felletin via a steep path that then leads to the street.

A few hills... but that means magnificent views. A wooden bridge and pretty streams. Villedeau Castle to admire... and don't forget to follow the signs by turning left.
The hike took four hours, taking the time to enjoy the scenery.

First part up to the ford on the Déjoune (point 8), very interesting route, then a more exposed route that is not very suitable for July. Due to a moment of inattention, we took a wrong turn at the castle and were therefore unable to judge the end of the hike. The title is perhaps a little exaggerated when it comes to the streams, brooks and rivers.
