Reach Rodès via the N116 and then the D16. Park in the car park on the left just before the post office and town hall, which are almost in the same place.
(S/E) From the car park, stay on the road and pass in front of the post office to enter the historic village of Rodès. Turn left towards the Guillera Gorges. Continue on the road for about 500 metres.
(1) Cross the Têt river over a stone bridge, leaving the Gorges de la Guillera path on your right at the entrance to the bridge. Take the DFCI track on the left at the end of the bridge. Follow this track along the Têt river. Pass a first path on your right and a track on your left, arriving at the start of a path on your right at a small oratory.
(2) The path climbs through the scrubland, initially heading due north, then quickly turning north-west, overlooking the Ravine des Cases on your left. Looking north in the distance, you can see the ruins of the church with its characteristic high wall still standing, a remnant of the old watchtower. Numerous viewpoints along the trail offer splendid views of Canigou to the south-west and the Vinça dam.
The path soon passes through the first ruins of the abandoned village and ends at the foot of the ruined church in the old village of Sant Feliu de les Cases (as indicated on the IGN map)¹. Do not venture near the sections of wall that are in very poor condition.
(3) From the ruined church, take the obvious path heading due west. This almost flat path leads after one kilometre to a large plateau at altitude 420.
(4) Take the path on the left, ignoring the first path on the right that descends into the fields, but then take a small, obvious track on the right that climbs slightly.
This small track goes around La Cogulera on the left (altitude 530), a very obvious peak, the highest in the area. Follow this track up to a crossroads (altitude 475).
(5) Caution: do not take the blue marked trail opposite, which descends steeply towards the dam, but head east to go around the summit on a very pleasant small balcony track. There are numerous views of Canigou, the Vinça reservoir below and the Mediterranean towards Perpignan on the horizon. Soon the path descends to join a wide track.
(6) Take this wide track on the right, which descends gently along the ravine. It passes very close to the Vinça Reservoir dam, crosses the Còrrec de les Cases via a small ford and runs alongside the Têt river to the junction already passed on the way there.
(2) From there, return to the starting point by retracing your steps. (S/E)
