Around Mont Férion

Head up the Var valley to the village of Saint-Martin-du-Var. After the Saint-Martin-du-Var roundabout, follow the M20 to the left towards Levens. At the junction between the end of the M20 and Avenue Général de Gaulle, turn right to marker 261, then head up the Chemin de la Madone on the left, which becomes the Pré des Cavaliers, to the starting point: marker 265.

(S/E) Follow the wide path up towards the Col de Rosa to reach marker 266.

(1) Follow the sign for Col de Rosa to the right. Head back down the path, then start the climb after a right-hand bend. Arrive at Col du Travail, at marker 281.

(2) Turn left towards Col de Rosa. Continue the climb through woodland consisting mainly of oak trees. Reach marker 280.

(3) Continue to the left until you reach Col de Rosa, at marker 279.

(4) Now follow the sign for Mont Férion on the left for 1.5 km, heading due north, to reach marker 278.

(5) Turn right towards Mont Férion to reach marker 275.

(6) Turn right towards Mont Férion and walk up an avenue of cedars leading to the Chapelle Saint-Michel. Marker 274 is 100 m further up.

(7) Continue straight on towards Mont Férion: the view is much more open, with views of the Paillon valley on the right and the Var valley on the left. Reach Mont Férion (elevation 1412 m).

(8) Begin the descent and you will soon come to marker 273.

(9) Follow the signs for Baisse de la Minière on the right. Descend a very steep section overlooking the village of Coaraze by 700 m. You will reach marker 206.

(10) Turn right towards the village of Coaraze and head back into the woodland to reach marker 205.

(11) Take the path on the right: you can see the Paillon valley throughout this section. Head for marker 207.

(12) Continue towards Coaraze on the left and begin a winding descent leading to Coaraze primary school and marker 201.

(13) Walk along the left-hand side of the village of Coaraze, heading towards Mont Férion. Pass in front of the Chapelle Bleue and arrive at marker 202.

(14) Climb towards Mont Férion to quickly reach marker 203.

(15) Turn left, continue the ascent towards Mont Férion and find marker 204 100 m further up.

(16) Continue the climb towards Mont Férion through the woods, with occasional clear views of Coaraze. Reach marker 205, which you passed on the way out.

(11) Continue straight ahead and, following the reverse route of the outward journey, reach marker 273, which you also passed on the way out.

(9) Head right towards the Col du Dragon, which is reached after several hairpin bends, along with marker 272.

(17) Head down the wide track on the left to reach marker 271.

(18) Take the path on the right towards Levens and reach marker 270.

(19) Continue towards Levens on the path on the right, which widens again. Pass marker 269.

(20) Follow the path to the right towards Levens: this section offers unobstructed views of the Var valley and the Cap d’Antibes. You will reach marker 267.

(21) Follow the signs for Levens opposite and complete the descent, which takes you back to marker 266, which you passed at the start of the walk.

(1) Turn right, heading in the opposite direction to the outward journey, to return to the car park at marker 265 (S/E).

In case of rain, you can take shelter under the Saint-Michel Chapel.

There is a spring near marker 270.

Visit the village of Coaraze and the Saint-Michel Chapel during the hike, and the Saut des Français viewpoint in the surrounding area.
