Description of the walk

For ease of description, the following symbols are used:
R sign: Yellow sign with hiker pictogram
W sign: Sign or diamond with the annotation Wanderweg
Sign No. 3: Yellow multi-directional sign with green sticker No. 3

The starting point for this stage is at the B&B Bären in Rüeggisberg.

(S) From the exit of the B&B Bären, start on Bärenstutz street, pass a W sign indicating to turn left onto Brügglenstrasse. Follow this small road, gradually leaving the village behind, and look for the first No. 3 sign at a fork. Keep right on Brügglenstrasse and you will come to another fork.

(1) Leave Brügglenstrasse, keep right and you will soon see a W sign indicating a path that descends into the valley. Turn left and begin the descent through meadows, following several W signs. You will arrive at Elsenholzstrasse.

(2) At the W sign, heading west, follow Elsenholzstrasse. Leave it at the bend as indicated by a R sign. Continue downhill through Weid and follow the W signs at each intersection to reach Rossgrabenstrasse after passing through the forest.

(3) At sign No. 3, walk along this road, which is very steep in the Schwandbach gorge. Cross a bridge at the confluence of the Schwandbach and the wide Schwarzwasser river (sign No. 3).

(4) Keep heading west on the road, which becomes Fultigenstrasse, for about 700 metres. Look for a sign for R after a bend.

(5) Leave the road and begin a fairly steep climb through the woods. You will come out onto a forest track that joins the Fultigenstrasse. Follow this road to a crossroads. Continuing west, stay on the Fultigenstrasse until it crosses the Thunstrasse.

(6) Keep right on Thunstrasse for about 100 metres and look for a path on the left marked by sign No. 3.

(7) Climb the hill, which offers a view of Siechenhölzli. Head towards Schwarzenburg, following the signs for W. Enter the town via Milkenstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse, pass the railway station and continue to a roundabout with a sign for No. 3.

(8) Head south, quickly leave Freiburgstrasse and enter Dorfplatz.

(9) At the R sign, gradually leave Schwarzenburg via Junkerngasse, then Herrengassli until you reach the junction with Schlossgasse.

(10) Follow sign No. 3 south on Wyssthanweg, which joins Dorfmattenstrasse. Continue on this road until you reach Lischgässli (sign No. 3).

(11) Continue along this long straight road until you reach an intersection at elevation 829, marked with sign No. 3.

(12) Turn left and follow the W sign to leave Rütiweg. Take the path on the right and begin the ascent, following the W signs. Pass farms and houses in Schilberg and Pfad.

(13) Heading south, follow sign No. 3 and continue climbing steeply. Follow several signs to the right until you reach Wahlenhaus. At a T-junction, turn right and follow sign No. 3 to the foot of the last difficult section.

(14) Climb the steep slope through an alpine pasture to reach the ridge path of the Guggershorn.

(15) Turn right, passing in front of a mountain hut, and continue to the foot of the Guggershorn. Use the long staircase to reach the summit. Enjoy the panoramic view and descend carefully to signpost No. 3.

(16) Follow the path that winds down to the main road in Guggisberg.

(17) Take Guggisbergstrasse to the village square and the Hotel Sternen, where you can spend the night (E).
