The walk starts from the village square in Saint Paul d'Arifat.
No signposts
(S/E) Head east with the church of Saint Paul d'Arifat on your left. At the intersection with a calvary, turn left. Leave a road coming from the left.
(1) At the next intersection with a calvary, turn right onto the wide track. Ignore the two paths on the left.
(2) Leave this wide track, which descends steeply to the right (not marked on the map), and take the small, barely marked path opposite. This little-used path is more or less overgrown with brambles and holly. Continue straight ahead until you come to a perpendicular track near the houses (the previous junction marked by IGN no longer exists). At this junction, turn right towards the fish farm until you reach the road. At the road, turn left.
(3) At the crossroads, cross and Mont Roc sign, follow this road on the right which climbs steadily to the village of Mont Roc. Ignore the first road on the right.
(4) At the square in front of the church, go up Rue du Village on the left towards the orientation table anchored at the top of the cemetery. There is grass and a bench, ideal for a picnic break or meditation.
(5) After enjoying the view, retrace your steps.
(4) To avoid a dull stretch of road, take the passage on the left immediately after the bakery (Occitan stone cross to the left of the passage). The tarmac quickly gives way to a sunken path lined with large stones. At the end of the path, you will come across theGR®36.
White-red markings
(6) Turn left onto theGR®36. Follow the path to the Puech Noly lodge, which you will go around by crossing a lawn to end up on the road. At the next crossroads, turn right and continue for 100 metres. On the left is the start of the section of path with double markings.
White-red markings + yellow markings
(7) Turn left onto the wide dirt track. This track overlooks the Razisse Dam. The route on the IGN map is inaccurate as it has been modified since work on the dam. Follow the new markings with confidence.
(8) Viewpoint over the dam in the distance. Follow the white-red markings to the right, cross the Dadounet via a small wooden bridge (in summer, it is possible to walk along the concrete platform just before the bridge, close to the water). Go around the Mouline du Viguier and follow the Dadou, which will remain on your right, until you reach Gourg Nègre.
(9) Gourg Nègre with a view overlooking the Dadou. From here, a very steep climb begins, which only levels out as you approach Coutounel. This entire section of the IGN map is incorrect. In front of the entrance to Coutounel, continue along the road (ignoring the road on the right leading to Verdussat).
(10) At Roquegardie, ignore the Mont Roc and Arifat signs at the crossroads and continue left along the road towards Saint Paul d'Arifat (S/E).
because you really have to turn left onto the road
