Park in the car park on Chemin des Hauts Pétignons: a few spaces are available under the trees.
(S/E) Take the small path leading down through the vegetation. After 50 m, take the path on the left, then 50 m further on, the one on the right. Turn left at the next junction and join the path that forms part of the GR®51: red and white markings. Follow it to the right as far as the hamlet of Haute Rouquaire.
(1) Take the path on the right, following the GR® markings for about 400 m. Then leave the markings and head left to begin the climb to the summit of Rocher de Roquebrune.
(2) Take a steep climb with handrails towards the end, before reaching the Trois Croix: magnificent 360° views, but caution is advised for those prone to vertigo.
(3) Descend to a small, unnamed pass and continue straight on.
(4) To continue the hike, take the path on the left. This 150-metre section requires real care: it is a steep descent with handrails and safety chains. Reach a junction.
(5) Follow the path on the right which descends into the forest and leads to a rock on the left.
(6) Turn left onto the path that runs alongside the two cliffs: this is where, in my opinion, a helmet would be a good idea. There is a lovely view of the Gorges du Blavet in the distance. You can also see the A8 motorway below. You’ll reach a crossroads.
(7) Take the path on the left, which climbs up through the vegetation.
(8) As you emerge from the vegetation, you’ll find a more conventional path lined with fairy chimneys. Keep left at the next junction to complete the circular route at the hamlet of Haute Rouquaire.
(1) Turn onto the path on the right to retrace your steps along the route you took on the way out, and return to the car park (S/E).
