To get to Meilly-sur-Rouvres from Pouilly-en-Auxois (5 km), take the road to Arnay-le-Duc and turn left about a hundred metres after the car park on the right, heading towards the aerodrome. The walk starts in front of the church in Meilly-sur-Rouvres (parking spaces opposite the town hall).
(S/E) Walk up past the church and read the plaque at the cemetery entrance. Continue (with the church on your right) and turn left into the street (Allée des Platanes). Follow this street down to a lovely pond and its wash house.
(1) Turn right into the street, then veer left to walk along the right bank of the stream.

Cross a road and head across to the left bank of the watercourse. Cross the next road again and head across to the right bank of the watercourse.

(2) Follow the path alongside the watercourse. Cross a track leading to a farm on the right and continue alongside the watercourse.
(3) Cross the D14 for the first time and continue on the opposite side along the left bank of the ditch.
(4) Cross the D14 a second time and continue straight ahead on the right bank of the ditch. The ditch runs parallel to the D14.
(5) Cross the D14 for a third time and continue straight ahead on the opposite bank of the ditch (left bank).
Unmarked section
(6) You’ll reach the D115k; follow it to the left until you reach a wayside cross.
(7). Take the path that veers to the left, follow it straight on, ignoring a path on the left, and continue to the bridge over a ditch.
(8) Turn left along the ditch to join a small road and the embankment of Lac du Tillot.
“If the grass is too high, cross the bridge and carry on to the crossroads, then head up the small road on the left to reach the embankment.”
The canal from Lac de Chazilly runs along the top of this embankment.
Then, continue along the small road (passing the warden’s house) with a view of the lake on your right. At the crossroads, turn right towards the lakeshore and the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) observation post.
You’ll be able to spot many different species of birds.
(9). Walk past the LPO’s small hut and continue along the lakeshore to its far end, where you’ll reach a small road; follow it to the right
(10) At the next three junctions, carry on straight ahead until you reach the D994 (at the entrance to Rouvres-sous-Meilly).
(11) Cross it, turn left towards the wayside cross and take the street that veers off to the right, heading towards the pond.
(1) Carry on straight ahead along the street leading to the church car park (S/E).
