Description of the walk

Access: To get to the starting point, leave the A38 Pouilly-en-Auxois - Dijon motorway at Civry-en-Montagne (exit 26).
Then follow signs for Civry-en-Montagne. Turn left at the intersection towards the church and continue to the exit of Civry towards a calvary under some lime trees. There, you can park on the side of the road.
(S/E) Walk down Grande Rue towards the church (north-east).

Yellow markings
(1) At the church crossroads, turn left onto the D108f and follow it. Do not take the grassy path on the right; leave the village via the D108f.

(2) About 280 metres after leaving the village, leave the D128f on the right and take the dirt track that runs along the edge of the fields. Leave the first one on the right and follow the second one.
Further on, this road becomes a forest path, which you should follow to the water catchment area. Continue straight ahead, slightly to your left. Do not go down towards the pumping station.

(3) You will come back onto the D108f, which you should take on your right for a few metres. Then take the woodland path on your left, follow it and turn left when you reach the plateau.
Continue along the wooden path towards the south until you reach the tarmac road, which you will take on your right.

Green markings
At the crossroads, continue straight ahead until the next junction.

(4) Turn onto the first gravel field path on your right and follow it for about 850 metres.

Yellow & green markings
(5) At the crossroads, continue straight ahead on the path towards Lac de Grosbois 2.5 km (on the sign: Chaume la Rave altitude 515m).

(6) When you reach the crossroads of four paths, turn right onto the path between the meadows and fields (heading south-east) after taking a look at the Brenne Valley at the crossroads.
Continue along this path, where you will have a beautiful view of the valley and the village of Grosbois on your left.
The path curves slightly to the left and crosses a wetland between two woods.

(7) Look for the marked path on the left that enters the forest and take it.
Be careful as the path is very steep and there is a risk of slipping in wet weather.
After a long descent through the undergrowth, you will come to a tarmac road, which you should follow to your right for a few metres. Then turn left onto the D108f road to cross the bridge over the canal coming from the dam.

(8) Just after crossing the bridge, turn right onto the grassy path that runs alongside the channel and follow it.

(9) After about a hundred metres, you will have a beautiful view of the village of Grosbois on your left. When you see the sluices at the start of the canal, cross the canal on the first footbridge on your right, climb the few steps and turn left onto the path that will take you to the canal's starting point.

Once there, climb slightly to the right up the path at the junction of the two perpendicular slopes. You will arrive at the counter-reservoir dyke.

(10) Follow it on your right until you reach the D108f road, which you will take on the left. Follow this road without turning towards the guard's house.

(11) Once you have passed the guard's house, leave the D108f road and take the dirt track on the left. Follow this track, which runs alongside the reservoir, for about 800 to 900 metres. Please note that this part of the walk is very muddy in wet weather.

Turn onto the path that branches off to the right to cross a meadow and climb up to a path that will take you back to Civry. When you come within sight of the village, take the path on the left that will lead you to a wash house and a fountain.

(12) Go up the grassy path to the left of the fountain and you will arrive at a T-junction.

Off the marked trail
(1) Take the Grande Rue opposite, which will take you back to your starting point (S/E).

Be very vigilant during hunting season as you will be crossing wooded areas where large game hunting is frequent.
Wear hiking boots that provide good ankle support, as the terrain is rocky and there is a risk of sprains.
In wet weather, the path along the edge of the Grosbois reservoir is very muddy and should be avoided if you are not wearing suitable footwear.
There are no water supply points along the route.

A beautiful hike with varied landscapes and a multitude of wildflowers.
However, there are two very wet and muddy sections, which are slippery, especially the part that runs alongside the reservoir, which is very long! Is there no other way around?

A very pleasant route through forests, lakes and fields. Recommended for a beautiful, peaceful walk. No problems at the end of August and with no recent rain.

The day we did it, there weren't many people around, but the weather wasn't great. And the path along the lake was particularly muddy. We're going to do it again with our club in July, so we'll see the difference in terms of both visitor numbers and the condition of the paths.
But it's a very enjoyable hike.

We extended this hike with the Martrois hike, making it 19 km in total (which I would recommend you do).
In fact, apart from the lake, there isn't much else of interest.
Difficult to descend from point 7 to 8 as it is very muddy and cracked.
The same applies to the area around the lake, and it is difficult to find the starting point for the climb back up to Civry.

Hello,
A beautiful hike with views of the lake. The mountain village of Groisbois is magnificent, with its houses, wash house and pink castle built around 1700. I'll let you discover for yourself why it's pink.
Check out the drainage system behind the dam.
In hot weather, the path after point 11 is dry with cracks.
After 11, be careful to turn in the meadow, there are marks on the trees.
Thank you for this hike.

The trail has recently been re-marked, which is handy.
The path along the lake is impassable for much of its length due to the accumulation of rainwater
It is necessary to walk through the meadows, which are also wet.

We encountered a few difficulties at the lakeside, but the route was superb on a beautiful sunny day.
We hesitated to cross the meadow to take the climb up to Civry.

A slight variation: I started with reservoir no. 10 so that I could finish with a swim at Grosbois without having to take the car back. This proved to be a wise choice, as section 11 was tricky; it was better to do it at the start of the route than at the end (the path was almost impassable as it was very wet and muddy in places).
A rather pleasant hike.

A varied walk with beautiful views of the lake. There was a problem with the path along the lake shore, which was very muddy and almost impassable due to livestock passing through. We couldn't find the path through the meadow to take the trail up to Civry, but we managed to find our way...
