Starting from Notre Dame de la Gorge.
Park 300 metres before the chapel in the large car park provided for this purpose.
(S/E) Follow the small path through the forest, which avoids the 300 m stretch of road.
(1) You will arrive in front of the Notre Dame de la Gorge chapel (there are many small chapels in the surrounding area)
From there, cross the river on the large bridge and go straight up the steep path on the right (an old Roman road).
(You are now on the Mont Blanc circuit route, which then climbs up to the Col du Bonhomme).
The first ramp is the steepest, then after 150 metres of elevation gain, the slope becomes less steep. At times, you will be overlooking the Bon torrent 200 metres below. Take care as there is a large drop on the right...
The path winds its way over beautiful slabs left behind by the retreating glacier.
(2) At around 1,350 m on the right, a small protected viewpoint offers a glimpse of a natural arch above the gorges. (If the ground is slippery, watch out for roots...)
50 m higher up, a bridge allows you to look down on the gorges.
Here too, there are safety barriers with a view of the stream.
Continue climbing a little further and you will come out, as if by magic, onto a beautiful mountain pasture. (The impressive west face of Mont Tondu, 3,195 m, is just above you)
(3) At the upper chalets, turn left and descend slightly towards the Laya bridge. A short climb follows and just after the Chalet de la Laya (a pleasant picnic area), you arrive at a bridge just in front of the Combe Noire waterfall.
An impressive waterfall with a giant's pot at your feet.
Torrential erosion is at its most impressive here.
The return journey follows the same route (with a slight variation in the stream-Borrant mountain pasture) and takes about 1 hour (S/E).
