Refuge de Vens - Camp des Fourches

Thisthird and final stage of the Tour du Mont Aiga starts from the Refuge de Vens and crosses a balcony below the slopes of the Aiguilles de Tortisse to the north-east of the Lacs de Vens. After passing the Crête de la Côte and descending to the Maisons Forestières de Tortisse, you will walk along a balcony path beneath the slopes of the Tête des Mourres to reach the Morgon plateau and climb back up to Laussets and finally to the Lacs de Morgon. At the large Morgon lake, you will descend eastwards into Salso Moréno to rejoin the path of thefirst stage and Camp des Fourches. It is possible to see chamois early in the morning and, of course, marmots throughout the day.

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Three-day tour of Mont Aiga starting from Camp des Fourches

Description of the walk

(S) Leave the Refuge des Lacs de Vens and head north-west to join the Route de Tortisse at marker 24.

(1) Take the southwest route, Route de Tortisse, to walk along the left bank of the Lacs de Vens. Ignore the paths leading down to the lakes and stay on the balcony until marker 23.

(2) Turn right, heading northwest, still on the Route de Tortisse. Pass under the Sommet de la Côte, then a small pass, and descend via switchbacks into the Tortisse valley. Reach the crossroads at marker 34.

(3) Head left, due west, and you will soon reach the Misons Forestières de Tortisse. Descend towards the Torrent de Tortisse and cross it via a small wooden footbridge. Continue along the balcony path and you will reach the crossroads at marker 33 below the Cabane de Morgon.

(4) Here you have two options:
- either turn right, but you have to look for it, a risky shortcut through the grassy slopes.
- or continue to the left, which is the route shown on the map, to go around the Morgon plateau.
In both cases, you will reach the stream flowing from the Lacs des Laussets and Morgons

(5) Cross it and begin the climb to reach the Laussets Lakes.

(6) Continue climbing to reach the Lacs de Morgons, the highest point of this stage.

(7) Turn left downhill, reach the Vallon de la Cabane and continue on to cross the Salse Morene or Salso Moreno. A few metres further on, you will reach the multiple crossroads at marker 37.

(8) Turn left here onto the GR®5-GR®52 and GR®56 and begin another climb to reach the Col des Fourches, where you will find marker 41.

(9) Head west, staying on the GR® trail, to reach the Camp des Fourches car park (E) via a flat section, which marks the end of this three-day route.
