Narrow access road, so take care from Roure in the Tinée Valley. Departure after the Marcel Kroenlein Arboretum, small car park on the left.
(S/E) From the car park, marker 241, continue along the track, Route Forestière de la Fracha. Pass under a power line and find the start of a path on the left about a hundred metres further on.
(1) Leave the track and take the path on the left. Follow this path as it climbs steadily through the larch forest.
(2) Cross the forest track and continue along the path.
(3) On the right, marker 252, follow the Crête de la Clouetta along a steeper climb. Higher up, with a bit of luck, at the end of June or beginning of July, keep an eye out for orange lilies. On your left are the slopes of the Valberg resort.
(4) The climb continues steadily, facing Mont Autcellier. Pass to the right of the cliff, climb straight up the meadow and higher up, you will see two cairns on the left.
(5) You are now at the summit of Mont Autcellier, where your efforts are rewarded with a 360-degree view of an exceptional panorama to the north-east, including the peaks of Argentera, Nasta, Mont Pèpoiri, Giraud and Mont Gravière, and to the north, Mounier and Cime de la Bonette.
Continue along the ridge to the right to reach a stony slope. Do not descend into the forest further to the right, but head towards a shepherd's hut below. Be careful! The slope is steep and there is no real path. For some time now, Edelweiss flowers have been found on the upper part in the middle of the scree.
(6) Pass close to the hut, where you may also see a few chamois early in the morning. Climb up the meadow opposite Le Pervoux for your final ascent.
(7) From Pervoux, below on the left, you can see the hamlet of Vignols. Continue keeping to the right, walking along the edge of the forest. The corner of the forest and the cattle troughs serve as landmarks.
(8) Continue downhill along the edge of the forest to the bottom of the valley. Be careful, as there are many marmot holes hidden by the grass on the slope. At the bottom, join the GR®. In late June, you will find wild tulips and globeflowers in abundance.
(9) Turn right towards the Refuge de Longon and continue to the refuge.
(10) At the Refuge de Longon, you will receive a very warm welcome from the wardens. It is a magical place surrounded by cows, sheep, goats and chickens.
Continue your descent, which is quite steep at first, along the stream to reach the foot of the waterfall.
(11) Continue south-east until you reach marker 277.
(12) Ignore the turn-off to the left and continue on theGR®. Further down, cross a footbridge (elevation 1465).
(13) You will arrive at a grassy plateau in a place called Rougios, with a few barns. Cross it to reach marker 276.
(14) Turn right to join the track, then descend to the left for another 3 km to the Barre car park (S/E).
