Short circular in the Forêt de la Fracha

The hike through the Fracha Forest, starting from the village of Roure, follows a well-marked trail that gradually winds its way up through the larch trees. The route, which is not particularly difficult, offers a moderate elevation gain and regular passages through the undergrowth, ideal for warming up. The viewpoints over the valley allow you to appreciate the Cime de Roubion and the neighbouring ridges, before returning via a comfortable and perfectly marked circular route.

Description of the walk

Continue above the village of Roure, following the Route du Pla, then the Route Raymond Durbec to park at the car park at La Barre, near the cistern.

(S/E) Take the wide track that follows the GR®5: white and red markings. Reach marker 254, indicating the Col du Mont Aucellier.

(1) Leave the track and take the path on your left, following it until you reach the junction at marker 251.

(2) Continue to the right along the wide path, pass a clearing and continue straight ahead on the path that descends, makes a sharp right turn and rejoins the GR®5 at marker 250, at a crossroads with multiple directions.

(3) Continue to the right to descend gently, following the GR®5.

(1) Continue straight ahead to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

For the hike from the Fracha Forest to Roure, bring sturdy hiking boots, a light backpack with water and snacks, technical clothing suitable for temperature variations, and walking poles for the regular elevation changes. A map or GPS app, a charged phone, and a small first aid kit complete the recommended equipment.

Worth a visit

Along the Forêt de la Fracha trail, you will pass through magnificent larch and black pine undergrowth, with several clearings offering unobstructed views of the Tinée valley and the peaks of Roubion. The route also allows you to observe the rich local flora: alpine orchids in spring, mosses and lichens on tree trunks, as well as the elusive fauna: squirrels, birds of prey and sometimes deer at dawn. As you approach Roure, the hilltop village and its stone houses offer a remarkable panorama. If you wish, I can make this more lyrical or more technical.
