Refuge de la Blanche - Maljasset

Here, the names change from white to black with great dexterity. Indeed, the passage from Queyras, Refuge de la Blanche, to Ubaye is via the Col de la Noire. Original, isn't it?

This walk is part of a multi-day hike: Horse riding in Queyras and Ubaye

Description of the walk

(S) Leave the Refuge de la Blanche and the lake of the same name by taking the Col de la Noire trail south, following the signs. Then follow a very good trail with a few scattered, very faint yellow markings, which ends at the Col de la Noire pass (sign).

(2) Begin an excellent descent leading to Lac de la Noire. Continue on an excellent path. Be very careful when crossing a very short rocky section. Join theGRP® Petit Tour du Bric de Rubren in the mountain pasture.

(3) Follow theGRP® (red and yellow markings) to the left to reach the edge of Lac de Longet.

(4) Turn back to the previous crossroads.

(3) Then begin the long, easy descent opposite into this mountain pasture on the left bank of the source of the Ubaye. Cross this mountain pasture, passing alongside the Cabane du Col. The trail then turns south-west, passing close to the Cabane du Peyron and overlooking the Marmites de Géants.

(5) Stay on the trail and continue heading south-west to reach the ruins of the Cabane du Rayne.

(6) Continue downhill; the trail approaches the Ubaye and joins it in a large meadow.

(7) Cross the Ubaye on the footbridges and continue along its left bank until you reach a new footbridge at the entrance to Plan de Parouart.

(8) Cross the Ubaye again and begin to skirt around the north side of the plain. Follow a few long bends to reach the first hamlet, Combe Brémond.

(9) At the exit of the hamlet, rejoin the track, follow it, cross the second hamlet of Maurin and finally arrive at Maljasset, the day's destination (E).

The beautiful Ubaye Valley is very wild as you descend towards Maljasset

Very beautiful hike. A few slightly difficult sections at the top of the descent, as indicated. In addition, the scree slope between points 7 and 8 can also be a little tricky, as can a footbridge that is in a somewhat advanced state of disrepair. Several herds with Patou dogs.
