Departure from the Col de Portet car park, accessible in autumn but some restrictions are to be expected during the summer period.
GR®10White and Red markings
(S/E) Head south-west towards the resort, keeping the buildings on your left, until you reach a three-way junction.
(1) Take the path between the two wider tracks. Walk alongside the Sabourès chairlift for a short while, then turn right away from it.
(2) Cross a small stone bridge over the Montarrouyet stream and continue.
(3) Step over the Pichaley stream. The crossing is over large stones, which is quite fun with a child! Continue along the path.
(4) Turn right onto the path and leave the resort. You will begin to see Lac de l'Oule (dry in October 2024). Continue along the balcony path until you reach a three-way junction.

(5) Keep to the right, pass above Lac Inférieur and reach the junction with Ruisseau de Bastan (direction sign).

(6) Continue on the right at the top to quickly reach Lac du Milieu. You can dip your feet in the water, or even swim if you're feeling brave.
(7) Continue along the path for a quick climb to the Bastan Refuge. The last little climb to get there is probably the steepest of the hike, but it's still very easy.
(8) Turn around and retrace your steps to return to the Col de Portet (S/E).
