Park in the car park at the foot of Schoeneck Castle on the D53 between Wineckerthal and Obersteinbach.
(S/E) Cross the road and head right, following the Green Triangle signs.
(1) After just over 200 m, cross the D53, continuing to follow the Green Triangle signs to Winerckerthal.
(2) Take the road on the right (south-east) for 500 m, following the Red RectangleGR®®53signposting which leads up to the Château du Nouveau Windstein.
Note: From the hamlet of "Gruenenthal", turn left and follow the Yellow Diamond markings to climb up to the castle.
(3) Head back down the other side towards the second Windstein.
(4) Pass by the Auberge des Deux Châteaux, following the Yellow Diamond markings which lead to Vieux Windstein.
(5) Follow the Red Rectangle markings leading to the Col du Gruenthal.
(6) Continue uphill and then downhill.
(7) Pass the Petit Grueneberg Pass and reach the Wineckerthal Pass.
(8) Follow the Red Rectangle markings on the left towards the Wittschloessel Ruins. After 400 m, take the path on the right marked with Red-White-Red Rectangles, which leads up to the Wittschloessel Ruins.
(9) Descend via the same path and continue straight ahead following the Red Rectangle markings until the first junction. Then follow the Yellow Triangle along the forest track. You will reach a hairpin bend.
(10) Follow the Yellow Disc, pass the Col du Wineck and continue on to reach Wineck Castle.
(11) Stay on the Yellow Disc markings to descend into the valley and turn right onto the path running alongside the D53 road. Return to the initial crossroads passed on the way out.
(1) Return to the car park (S/E).
(S/E) Now follow the Green Triangle-marked path opposite, which takes the tarmac road to the left. When you reach the pond, take the path on the right which climbs towards Schoeneck Castle, following the Green Triangle markings.
(12) Head back down the path, marked with Green Triangles, to return to the Schoeneck car park (S/E).
