Quercy Outdoor: The church at Luziers

Start at the Cazals lake, sports and nature centre.

(S/E) From the car park, turn left onto Rue du Périgord towards the village, then left onto Chemin du Portail, and right onto the D13 until you reach the D673.

(1) Turn left onto the D673, then take the second road on the left, Chemin du Touron. Follow this until you reach a crossroads, then turn right. Take the first path on the left until you reach a junction with a wide track. Follow this to the right until you reach a road. Cross the road and take the wide track opposite until you reach the next crossroads.

(2) Take the narrow path opposite. Stay on this path for a long while, ignoring the small junctions, until you reach a large three-way junction.

(3) Take the path on the right. Follow it until you reach the track. Then turn right to head down towards Luziers.

(4) At the bottom of the road, before setting off up the path, take a moment to admire the Church of Saint-Denis in Luziers (a 50-metre round trip). Walk up the path on the right to the road, then turn left and walk for 40 metres. Walk down the path on the left, keep left on the road and continue to the D673.

(5) Crossthe road (take care – it’s a busy road) and take the path on the far right that leads uphill, to the hamlet of Gameau. Take the road on the left and follow it up to the junction with the next track coming from the right.

(6) Head down this track. At the junction, turn right and continue along the path through the woods until you reach another junction. Take the track on the right which leads downhill and carry on. Further on, ignore the first path on the left; then, just before the bend, at the junction, take the small path on the left. Follow this path, continuing downhill, until you reach Cazals Castle.

(7) Walk along the left-hand side of the property until you reach the road. Head up the road on the right, then walk down to the cross. Turn right for 10 metres, then immediately left to reach Rue Haute.

(8) Turn right and walk past the Jean Gabriel Perboyre Chapel. Continue along the street to the square and turn left, passing the tourist office, until you reach Rue Jean Brouel.

(9) Cross the road and carry on straight ahead along Rue du Lieutenant Mazars. Take the second street on the right. Then cross the D673 and walk alongside the Atelier-musée des Vieilles Mécaniques.

(10) Take the path on the left and walk alongside the cemetery. Enter the woodland bordering the campsite and return to the starting point (S/E).
