Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the bottom of the village of Les Arques.

(S/E) Take Rue du Doyenne, which climbs up through the village. Pass a dead-end on the right.

(1) At the former presbytery, now converted into an artists’ residence (with a glass-fronted entrance hall), turn right down a narrow lane leading to the visitor centre for the Masse Valley Sensitive Natural Area and Zadkine’s former home.
Follow the narrow streets to an old tobacco drying shed, which you pass on your left, then head down to Auricoste.

(2) Cross the Divat bridge and take the mill path on the right. At the D45, turn left towards La Mouline and its pond, then right onto the D46 towards Saint-Caprais.
Follow the D46 for 200 m to a junction. Continue straight on towards the frescoes at Saint-André.
At the crossroads, turn left onto a path that climbs into the woods.

(3) Cross the main road and head towards the Saint-André Chapel. Take the path running alongside the small cemetery and turn left onto a small road for 200 m.

(4) Turn right onto the Marais des Arques path (wooden walkway) which crosses and then runs alongside the Masse stream to a small bridge. Take the road on the left.

(5) At the crossroads, take the path opposite which runs alongside the Viale stream and climbs up to the village of Les Arques, then to the car park at the bottom of the village of Les Arques (S/E).

You can ask for the keys to Saint-André Church at the museum reception to view its murals.
You will also discover the Marais des Arques, the preservation of which is important.

A pleasant walk, which we did in the opposite direction. Then, at point 2, we joined the circular route around Les Arques. And to round off this lovely day, we visited the church and the Zadkine Museum

Thank you for your advice. La Récréation restaurant will close on 3 November 2024 after closing time and remain closed until 14 February 2025. The Zadkine Museum is also adjusting its opening hours for the winter.

A lovely, easy little walk with beautiful scenery and a visit to a charming village in the Lot. Afterwards, I’d recommend Restaurant La Récréation – it’s a real treat for those who enjoy good food. And, of course, the Zadkine Museum.

Great tip! The little church of Saint-André is definitely worth a visit
(Just so you know, the museum is closed on Mondays and opening hours change during the low season )

To visit the Saint-André Chapel (frescoes), which is on the route, you must ask for the key at the Zadkine Museum before leaving Les Arques.

A lovely little walk starting in the charming village of Les Arques. (Well worth a visit!).
The path is very well signposted, with a shaded walk and a route through the marshes that’s very well maintained. I recommend it.

A lovely, easy walk; the marshes and the chapel are well worth a visit. We only did the section from (1) to (4), then retraced our steps towards La Mouline and then Auricoste, before continuing on to the “circular walk starting from Les Arques”.
