Walk between the villages of Lauraguel and Routier

A lovely walk through the vineyards, in the heart of the Malepère wine region.

Description of the walk

The route starts on the D623 on the outskirts of Lauraguel, heading towards Castelnaudary. You will see a sign for “Les Teillettes”. Park along the Chemin de l’Estragnol, which runs alongside a concrete products supplier.

(S/E) Cross the D623, walk back a few metres towards Lauraguel and turn right onto Allée du Perdinet, which continues as Chemin du Cassanel. Continue to the second junction on the left, at the Les Teillettes housing estate (return route).

(1) Follow Chemin du Cassanel straight ahead; the road climbs slightly and gives way to a path through the vineyards.

(2) At the Bordenave farm, turn left. The path descends for about 200m.

(3) At the junction, turn right until the next one, about 600m away.

(4) Turn left and, almost at the Albane stream, turn right onto a passable grassy path. Continue along this path, cross the stream and join the D702.

(5) Turn right, towards the village of Routier.

(6) At the junction just before the village entrance, continue straight on along the road.

(4) Follow the path you took on the way there in the opposite direction.

(3) At the junction, leave the path you took on the way there on your left and continue straight ahead along the Chemin des Prades. The tarmac road runs alongside the Albane stream.

(7) At Lauraguel Primary School, turn left to join the Chemin du Cassanel.

(1) Turn right and join the Chemin de l'Estragnol (S/E).

A pleasant walk for a couple in their eighties. No difficulty.
The lack of signposting meant we had to follow the route description and the IGN map on the Visorando app closely.
The sky was very overcast, so we only caught fleeting glimpses of the mountains. We took a detour to visit the village of Routier and it was well worth it. We enjoyed the small covered market with its tables and benches near the church (which was unfortunately closed).
The colours of the vineyards were magnificent... even without the sun.

An easy hike.
No problem with parking as we were staying in Lauraguel.

A lovely hike, though the route could have been described a bit more clearly – we took a wrong turn at one junction, which cost us about 10 minutes as we had to retrace our steps. We couldn’t make head nor tail of the directions once we reached Routier, and had to use a smartphone to find our way back to Lauraguel rather than take the same route back.
On the plus side, we didn’t see a single other person during the whole 8km – highly recommended.

A very easy walk. Flat path. From the panoramic road offering views of the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees, with views of Canigou, Madres, Carlitte, St Barthélémy, Bugarach and all the surrounding villages. For the car park at the start of the walk in Lauraguel, there is plenty of space as soon as you turn into the Allée du Perdinet and then onto the Chemin du Cassanel.
There are no signposts.

a walk without a shred of curiosity
Excellent route tracking on the smartphone
No description at the starting point and no signposting along the route
Well done to the person who mapped it on the IGN map
Route close to my home
It’s a shame that the free section is very short and only revealed at the end of the site visit, but it’s very well done and interesting
