Starting point at the Cour du Prieuré (marked as ‘Cour des Communs’ on the map): parking available.
(S/E) On leaving the car park, turn right to head up the Chemin des Huguenots. Turn left, then left again onto Rue des Chapelains. Turn right onto Rue de la Sabotée, then left onto Rue Basse de Loire, pass under the N7 via the Passage du Guichet and reach the Loire. Head towards the Pont de Loire and access the footbridge via a flight of steps.
(1) Cross the branch of the Loire via this footbridge. At the far end, turn right onto Quai de la Saulaie, then left onto Chemin de la Saulaie. Turn left again towards the second bridge via Quai d’Aval.
(2) Cross the branch of the Loire via this bridge and follow Avenue Jacques Cœur on the left-hand side as far as the Canal latéral à la Loire.
(3) Without crossing it, turn left onto the towpath.
(4) At the first lock, turn left. Continue to the D45E, cross it carefully, pass by the sandpit to reach the Loire embankment.
(5) Turn left onto the embankment and continue to the bridge. Cross the branch of the Loire again.
(2) Turn right to go round the island: panoramic view of La Charité. Then cross the other branch of the Loire again, using the footbridge – this is compulsory.
(1) Opposite, take Rue du Pont, then turn left, pass under the Porterie and head for the Cour du Prieuré (S/E).
