The hike starts at the junction of the D51 and D37 at the foot of the village of Pommier-de-Beaurepaire in a small car park opposite the junction of the D37 and D51.
(S/E) Leaving the car park, turn left onto the D51 towards Pisieu and Beaurepaire. After about 100 metres, take the first wide path on the left. The path goes around the Maupallet pond (photo), then climbs through forest and meadows towards the village of Pommier de Beaurepaire. When you reach the road (at a recycling point), take the road on the right (Chemin des Barrières). When the road comes to a three-way junction (signposted "table d'orientation"), take the left-hand road, which will take you to the rear of the church (photo). Go around the church on the right and turn left to see the Romanesque porch of Pommier church (photo).
(1) Turn around and go back up the "Grande Rue", which is a yellow-marked path. See the few Dauphiné houses (photos). Then take the first right in front of the school, taking the "Route du Bas". 50 metres further on, take the road on the left (Chemin de la Vie de Revel) after a recycling point. Beautiful view of the Alps to the left. Continue along the small road and when it turns into a path, climb above the water tank to enjoy the orientation table (photo 5) and the 360-degree view of the Alps, the Vercors, the Monts d'Ardèche, the Pilat massif, the Monts du Lyonnais, etc. (photo). Go back down from the orientation table and continue along the path.
(2) Take the first path on the right at the "Croix des Rampeaux" signpost. After 50 metres, when the paths separate, take the left fork. When you come to another main path, continue straight ahead on the shaded path, covered by a canopy of trees, which continues to descend.
(3) Gué du Dolon. When the road levels out, take the first road on the left towards an electrical transformer.
(4) At the transformer, cross the road and continue opposite on the small road called "Chemin du Paradis". Continue along the small tarmac road uphill. When the road turns into a path, continue straight ahead along this path. When you reach a small tarmac road, take the path almost opposite (slightly left-right). After a few dozen metres, the route on the IGN map is not entirely accurate and does not correspond to the GPS route that has been checked, but there is no risk of error. At the top, there is a beautiful view of the Ardèche mountains. At the top of the hill, you will come to a wide sandy path; take it on the right. When you reach a small road, go straight ahead. This small ridge road offers some beautiful unobstructed views of the Vercors.
(5) Head north on the first wide path on the left. When you come to a wide path, take it on the right. At the junction with a small tarmac road, follow it to the left. When the road turns at a right angle to the right, take the path straight ahead. The path runs alongside a first pond and then passes between two other ponds (photo).
(6) After the second pond, at a fishermen's hut, turn right onto the wide, well-trodden path. Cross the departmental road and take the path opposite with a sign prohibiting all vehicles. After about 100 metres, when the path forks, take the right-hand fork. The path runs alongside a small pond on the right, slightly hidden by trees, then enters the forest. At the crossroads (signpost for Étang de Bonnevaux), take the road straight ahead towards Pommier de Beaurepaire. At the end of the road, take the wide track on the right.
(7) 20 m further on, turn left onto the path at a large oak tree. The path runs along the edge of the forest and offers a beautiful unobstructed view of the mountains. The path turns left to enter the forest. After 50 m, take the path on the right at a sign (covered in lead) saying "no vehicles".
(8). The path descends, offering lovely views of the nearby hills and mountains (photo). When the path turns into a road, continue straight ahead with a very clear view of the mountains in the distance. At the junction with another small road, take the road on the left. When you reach the bottom, take the first road on the right at the "Combe Cara" sign.
(9). After three bends, the road runs alongside a small pond (photo). At the fork, turn right and you will join the D51 departmental road, which you take to the right. 50m further on, you will find the car park where you started on the left-hand side of the road (S/E)
