(S/E) Leave Place de l'Église in Saint-Julien by heading east on the D37d. The road immediately turns north. You will pass in front of the town hall.
Take the first small road on the right (signposted "chemin du Grand Bois"). Follow it to the edge of the woods. When you reach the edge of the woods, take the path opposite, which is marked "no vehicles". Follow this wide forest path, marked in yellow, until you reach a T-junction. Then turn right.
(1) You will immediately find yourself at the edge of the Ginot Pond. Walk past this pond.
(2) A little further on, you will see a sign on your right: Étangs de Bonnevaux - alt. 500 m. Take the smaller path on the left, set back from the main road. Continue along this path until you reach a wide gravel track.
(3) Take this track to the left. This takes you away from the yellow markings you have been following until now.
(4) You will reach a second pond, Étang Vivet. Continue along the wide forest path for a while. Gradually, it begins to wind and descend. It becomes less well maintained.
(5) You will come to the first ford. Normally, you can cross it without getting your shoes wet. If there is a lot of water, do not hesitate to turn back (there are two others like this one). Just after the ford, take a fairly narrow path on the left that goes uphill. The vegetation begins to encroach. It winds along the hillside. At a T-junction, turn left. Further on, ignore a leafy path coming from the right. After a while, your path descends steeply into a small valley.
(6) You will come to a second ford. At the next complex crossroads, take the path on the right.
(7) You will soon reach a third ford. Continue along the path. It leads to a small tarmac road. Turn left opposite. Follow this road to the next intersection.
(8) You will come to a small road (sign: Route de Saint-Julien-de-l'Herms). Turn left. Climb until you reach a hamlet at the top of the hill. Opposite, to the right of a pond, take the Chemin de la Bacconière. The tarmac gives way to a dirt track. On the descent, ignore a path coming from the right. You will arrive opposite the cemetery (there is a water point at the entrance) on the D37d, which you climb on the left to return to the church and your starting point (S/E).
