Pointe Dzérat

This hike is very demanding and requires good navigational skills. The Pointe Dzérat is usually reached by climbing, but the route followed here is manageable for experienced hikers. The reward is a 360° panorama at the summit. It is a round trip from the Col de la Colombière.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Follow the wide path to the Chalet de la Colombière.

(1) Leave the path leading up to the Montarquis cave as soon as possible and keep to the right. Head north as best you can.

(2) Walk along the foot of the cliff and cross an alpine pasture fence. The path becomes more visible.

(3) Head west, carefully following the easiest routes. The slope is steep all the way to the summit at Pointe Dzérat.

(4) From there, descend, roughly following the tracks you took on the way up.

(1) Return to the Chalet de la Colombière, then the pass of the same name, by following the same route back (S/E).

Notes

The Col de la Colombière is the starting point for this hike. Free shuttle buses mean you don’t need a car from St-Jean-de-Sixt, Le Grand Bornand or La Clusaz.

There are no water points along this route.

You can turn back at any time, but the descent is less difficult than the climb might suggest.
