Pointe du Payré

Easy access by car, with several car parks. A very lovely walk through woodland, along the rocky coastline and across beaches. Beautiful views of the Vendée coastline. No difficulty, but there are sandy sections.

Description of the walk

Park in the public car park at Saint-Nicolas in Jard-sur-Mer.

(S/E) Take the path along the edge of the Bois de la Bernarde and head towards a crossroads of paths on the coast.

(1) Walk along the coast opposite, re-enter the woods and arrive at another junction at a place called Le Payré.

(2) Carry on straight ahead to quickly reach the western tip, the Pointe du Payré.

(3) Turn left to walk along the coast and its cliffs once more, and return to the junction at the hamlet of Payré, which you passed on the way out.

(2) Turn right and follow the path back in the opposite direction to return to the Saint-Nicolas car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(3) Pointe du Payré: magnificent views of the Vendée coast, from Veillon beach to Les Sables d’Olonne, taking in Bourgenay and its harbour.
Plenty of beaches and harbours, markets and restaurants.

Three quarters of this hike is in the forest, so there is no sea view until you reach the tip

A beautiful walk with very few people around on that morning.
Beautiful views of the ocean after a walk through the forest.

A fun little tour for the whole family. Unfortunately, erosion has caused us to deviate from the planned route. The views are splendid at various points. The stone arch at low tide is also nice. Enjoy the walk!
