Description of the walk

Start: After the village of Tasartico, continue downhill towards the campsite on a track for about 1 Km. A signpost marks the start of trail s79.

(S/E) Follow trail s79 up to the pass, generally North-West. Don't follow some misleading cairns and stay on the main trail.

(1) Descend on the other side, first continuing North-West and then North.

(2) At a fork, fork left. Reach a few houses, then turn left down to the beach (white arrows).

(E) Return the same way, in the opposite direction, to the hiking post (S/E).

Notes

Start: After the village of Tasartico, continue downhill towards the campsite on a track for about 1 Km. A signpost marks the start of trail s79.

Refreshements: There are a few dwellings before the beach, some of which were inhabited when I visited.
There is a stream, but is the water drinkable?

Accommodation: Is it possible to bivouac on the beach?

The hike is longer than expected on the website. It is 5.2 km with a 1,000-metre elevation gain for the outward journey.
We did the hike with our children aged 6, 9 and 14 and my wife, and although they are used to sport and walking, the return journey was difficult for them.
2 hours 45 minutes there and 3 hours 30 minutes back, plus 2 hours on the beach.
Take plenty of water; the five of us drank 7.5 litres.
The beach is magnificent, and I think the whole family will be talking about it for some time to come

We set off on a weekday in September at around 1pm, with little shade and virtually no wind.
It took us 2.5 hours to do the outward journey and the same time for the return, with a sporty pace for the descent.
You can park just opposite the path with a hire car (Fiat 500).
- A MINIMUM of 3 litres of water per person.
- Good walking shoes are essential and hiking poles would be a plus.
- Just before arriving at the beach, there is a house where you can drink tea, coffee or lemonade.

A pleasant 3.5 hour round trip walk (not including the beach break) at a sporty pace from the campsite.
The route is relatively accessible, even for a hire car. You just have to take it easy.

We set off at around 10:30 in the morning in 25°C weather. It can get hot very quickly. There's little shade on the route and the sun is from behind on the way out and from the front on the way back (we left the beach at around 2pm). The return leg is the most tiring. So be sure to bring plenty of water.

The section between the pass and the beach is the longest.
The route is well marked out with no real difficulties apart from the difference in altitude. The gps indicated 9.5km round trip.

The beach is really superb. If you're here for several days, avoid the weekend when there are a lot of locals. You'll be happier during the week.
Thanks for the GPS track

in my opinion, you should leave early to do this hike before 8am (heat and difficulty) and avoid doing it in transit
it's a 20-25 minute drive from the GC200 junction to Tasartico (narrow road) and then the start of the hike towards the campsite
you can park right up to the start of the trail and drive slowly along the track

We really enjoyed doing this walk from the car park about 1 km from Tasartico, where the path starts. We didn't go all the way to the campsite on the stony path. With hire cars, the risk of a puncture put us off.
Aged 67 and 62, it took us 3? hours to get to the beach and 3? hours to get back, with 2? hours to the pass on the way there and on the way back.
It's not particularly difficult if you have good shoes and preferably hiking poles. Some of the Canaries went down on their backsides to make sure, but not us. On the outward journey, the climb to the pass is arid vegetation and a rocky path. When we reached the pass, there was a superb view of the sea and the descent that awaited us. A short descent, then we skirt around a rocky section on a flat, fairly wide path on the side of the rock face, and it's the final descent to the beach. A superb black sand beach with few tourists. There were 6 of us naked and 2 fully clothed when we got there. The return journey was no more complicated.
A lot of wind at the pass, felt at 10°C, and in the sun, sheltered at the bottom at 25°C.
Consumption: 1.5 litres of water per person, and a picnic on the beach.
