Sotavento beach from Agaete

Short hike before swimming in the Salinas pools and eating a delicious seafood dish. We follow part of the S-90, with a slight variation on the way back. The only drawback is that part of the road is dangerous, but there's a beautiful beach at the end.

Description of the walk

Start:Park near the port (private car parks often charge).

(S/E) Follow the port along Calle Francisco de Palomares, then continue along the carretera al Puerto de la Nieves, which bends left and then right before reaching a traffic circle.

(1) Go around this roundabout to the left, using the pedestrian crossings, then go straight ahead.

(2) Cross the road cautiously as there are no pedestrian crossings, enter the street opposite and turn right immediately. At the next junction, turn left onto path S-90.

(3)Ignore the right-hand path that will be used on your return, and go straight on to the carretera General a San Nicolas.

(4) Follow this dangerous road for about 700 m with great caution.

(5) Leave the road and turn right down the path to the beach.

(6) After enjoying the beach (⚠️non-supervised swimming), turn back.

(5)Turn left and follow the road again, observing the same rules of prudence.

(4) Turn left on the outward path.

(3) Take the left-hand path and follow the small white posts.

(7) At this junction, bear left to follow the path on the left, which takes you to the foot of Roque de Las Nieves (Finger of God).

(8) Turn right at the hairpin, go over the traffic circle and then left to join the Carretera al Puerto de Las Nieves. Cross at the crosswalk, turn left to go around the traffic circle and repeat the outward journey in the opposite direction to the port (S/E).

Yes, as mentioned in previous reviews, there is a mistake on the beach, which is not a problem. Nice easy walk along the seafront. Access to the beach is quite steep but easy to climb back up. Nice beach but strong waves. The passage on the road is ok. In theory, the walk is forbidden during the week (signs) due to a roadworks project underway but which seems to have been stopped for some time...

Beautiful scenery on this tour.
As I said earlier, it's not the Sotavento beach, but it's very nice all the same.
The passage along the road can be a little stressful, but you get there fairly quickly.
On the way back, just after the road, make sure you don't miss the path on the left, which allows you to avoid taking the same path as on the outward journey. Alternatively, you can take it a little further down, but this will take you back up a little.

Nice walk. Nice views of the village and the Doigt de Dieu. The section on the road is a bit scary, but in the end quite short. One comment: the route corresponds to GUAYEDRA beach. SOTAVENTO beach is one kilometre further south.
