Roque Nublo from Cruz de Timagada

Nice hike near Tejeda, a little "off the beaten" tourist track.
Accessible by car via GC-60 and the small parking area at Mirador Cruz de Timagada.
This itinerary takes you up to Roque de Nublode, where you'll enjoy beautiful views of Tenerife on one side and Fuerteventura on the other.

Description of the walk

Start: Leave from the Mirador Cruz de Timagada parking lot on the GC-60 road.

(S/E) Start with the short, paved climb up to the viewpoint. Leaving the viewpoint, continue on the S-82 hiking trail on a balcony overlooking the Tejeda and La Culata valleys, until you reach this small village.

(1) Cross it by turning right onto a small road (a few signs point the way to the S-70 Roque de Nublo trail) to take up a path that climbs through crops and forest towards the Roque Nublo plateau. The S-70 is the hiking trail around the Nublo plateau.

(2) At the intersection of the S-70 path, take the GR®° to the right to skirt the Roque Nublo plateau from the West towards the "Del Aserrador" mountain. The path gradually changes from low vegetation to pine forest.
At the pass, continue up the S-70 towards Roque Nublo and Roque Del Fraile.
At the Roque del Fraile pass, join the route taken by walkers arriving by bus from the other side of the GC-600 road and the Col de la Goleta.

(3) Leave this path on your right to climb to Roque Nublo: "great views but crowded at the top".

(4) Go back down on the GR® S-70 to the first pass.

(3) Take the S-70 on the left towards the Del Aserrador mountain. Continue on the GR°®°° S-70 down to the Col de Degollada del Aserrador, where there is a parking lot.

(5) From here, walk along the road towards Tejeda for about 500 m.

(6) At the intersection,
- either continue along the road to the Cruz de Timagada parking lot.
- or follow the signs for GR® S-82. The latter is located in the valley below the road and passes through cacti and other typical local vegetation, taking you back to the start (S/E).

Lovely walk starting from a small car park beside the road that avoids the quotas to climb to Le Roqué. Beautiful scenery all along the way. The GPS guidance is excellent. A little crowded from point 3 and at the summit. Beautiful views of Tenerife and the Teide volcano. The return journey is a bit on tarmac, but still acceptable. In fact, the mileage is closer to 14 km (Garmin Venu 2 watch), which we did in pleasant spring weather. I would recommend...

A very nice 5-hour walk. The climb up to Roque Nubio is quite steep but not too difficult and is well shaded. Virtually 360° views, magnificent! The Roque Nubio was indeed full of people, who disembarked at the nearby car park, but there were very few on the trail. The mileage is closer to 15 km than 12 via my Garmin; generally speaking, visiorando reduces the distance (-10/15%) compared with a Garmin/Strava type GPS.
