Pla del Totxar

A circular loop that branches off onto the last (and most beautiful) section of the PR®-CV 282, a marked trail that follows the route of the old "Cañada Real", a network of transhumance routes dating back to the time of King Alfonso X el Sabio. You will set off from the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen to cross small inhabited areas with modest country houses before starting a circular route through the mountains where you can enjoy beautiful views of the coast. Half of the walk is on small, quiet asphalt roads and the other half on a very accessible path with gentle slopes. You won't even notice the 275 m elevation gain. It is also possible to bypass two crossing points, which shortens the walk to 10 km.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

(S/E) Walk back up to the main road, which is the PR®-CV 282 trail.

(1) Turn left onto this small road: be careful, there are no pavements and quite a few bends, but it is a very quiet road. After 600 m, pass a bus stop on the right (bus no. 46 - see § Practical information) and cross a small housing estate. Continue straight on for about 1 km.

(2) Turn left onto Cami del Savinar for a few dozen metres, then, at the "PR®-CV 282" signs, immediately turn right onto Cami de la Canyadeta Verda, at the corner of the "Ecovallant, Agriculture Ecologica" factory. Continue straight ahead on the road that runs alongside fields on the left and a housing estate on the right until you reach a fork.

(3) Turn left, following the signs for "PR®-CV 282" and " Penyes Roges". Continue straight ahead until you reach the next "PR®-CV 282" sign.

(4) Leave the road on the right, following the path that climbs towards the mountains, and continue until you reach the next signs.

(5) Do not follow "PR®-CV 282.1", but stay on the path on the left that runs alongside a dry river bed. Continue until you reach the next signs.

(6) Turn left onto PR®-CV 282.2 just to enjoy a beautiful view of the coast.

(7) Retrace your steps.

(6) Take the PR®-CV 282 on the left, leave it after about 50 metres and continue to the next junction nearby.

(8) Don't miss this junction on the left, as it is easy to continue straight ahead. This path climbs up towards the mountain for about 1 km, then winds a little. Continue to the next junction.

(9) Continue left towards "Pla del totxar". This round trip is on a flat, easy path and offers beautiful views of San Joan and the surrounding mountains.

(10) Retrace your steps.

(9) Descend to the left, following the signs for PR®-CV 282.1. Continue along the path downhill until you reach a small road (Cami del Savinar).

(11) Turn right onto the road and head towards the dirt car park. Follow this road until you reach the next signs.

(12) Leave the road on the right, following the path that descends slightly and supports the PR®-CV 282.1, and rejoin the outward route.

(5) Follow this route in the opposite direction to return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

You can also take the bus from San Vincent del Raspeig. Bus no. 46. Get off at the "Pla Olivera Fte Casa Blanca" stop (a few metres before the Ermita) or at the next stop : "Lloma Alta (Camí Perdices)" at crossing point (1).

You can shorten the hike by omitting the return trips to the crossing points (6) and (9). This makes for a walk of about 10 km.
