Climb up to the Désert d'Entremont either via Corbel or Entremont-le-Vieux on the D45. Park in the Bruyères car park, the departure point for the resort's three small ski lifts and close to the ski pass office, the picnic room and the Notre-Dame des Bruyères inn.
(S/E) From the car park, take the path that climbs towards Mont Outhéran, which can be seen to the west. This path, clearly marked in yellow, runs along the right-hand side of the Notre-Dame des Bruyères restaurant. This wide, pleasant path quickly enters the woods. Follow it, taking care to close any gates behind you, and you will arrive at a large meadow with a clear view of Mont Outhéran and its cross.
(1) Cross this meadow, following the path. The path, which is still wide, descends into the woods again.
(2) When you reach a wider forest road, continue along this path in the same direction, following the yellow markings. Ignore the path on the right that descends towards the top of a ski lift.
(3) At the crossroads, do not take the path that branches off to the right, but continue along the same path marked in yellow. You will reach the Col du Grapillon.
(4) At Col du Grapillon, at the signpost where four paths intersect, take the one on the right that climbs towards Mont Outhéran. Climb this path, which becomes steeper as it winds through the forest towards Pas du Cuert. After a few metres of even steeper, stony path, you will reach the foot of the rocks of Mont Outhéran.
(5) Stop at a small promontory where there is a natural shelter, recognisable by its small cave, which can be used as a shelter in bad weather, directly below the rock. Admire the landscape, where you can see Pointe de la Cochette straight ahead. The path continues towards Pas du Cuert, skirting Mont Outhéran on the right, but we have chosen to retrace our steps towards Col du Grapillon to continue our walk towards Pointe de la Cochette.
(4) Return to Col du Grapillon, where the signpost indicates the direction of Pointe de la Cochette. Take this pleasant, gently sloping path through the woods, which will lead you to the peak and its panoramic view.
(6) At Pointe de la Cochette, take in the views of the surrounding mountains from the three sides: west, south and east.
To return, retrace your steps back to the Col du Grapillon.
(4) Follow the original route back down to the Bruyères car park (S/E).
