Description of the route

On leaving Mandelieu on the D6007 (N7), turn left at the roundabout (at a place called Le Tremblant) onto Chemin de Maure Vieil. Head to the starting point at the car park.

(S/E) Continue along Chemin de Maure Vieil to the Maure Vieil chapel.

(1) Take the unpaved track on the right and follow it to the Col de la Cadière.

(2) Ignore the hairpin bend to the left (return path) and continue straight on to the Col de la Cadière.

(3) Turn left onto the tarmac road and follow it to the Col de Notre-Dame.

(4) Continue to the right on the tarmac road to the Pic de l'Ours.

(5) Return via the same route to the Col de la Cadière via the Col de Notre-Dame.

(4) At the Col de la Cadière, take the path furthest to the right and head for the Col du Trayas.

(6) Continue straight on to reach the Col des Monges.

(7) Follow the path on the left which goes round the Rocher des Monges on the left, then descend, ignoring the turn-offs to the right, until you reach the fork at the bottom of the descent.

(8) Take the hairpin bend to the left before Maure Vieil and climb up the Rague valley until you reach a path on the right.

(9) Cross the stream, then after a short climb, ignore the path on the left and continue along a relatively flat section. Join the Ravin de Maure Vieil.

(2) Turn right to return via the same route as on the way out to the car park at the start (S/E).

Notes

This spot is popular and the car park can be full. It is best to set off early in the morning.

Worth a visit

From the Col de Notre-Dame, the path overlooks the Mediterranean.
There is a remarkable view from the Pic de l'Ours over the sea and the mountains. On a clear morning, you can see Corsica.

The Esterel is lovely when you can't head for the high mountains just yet
