Park at Col de Menté.
(S/E) Take the forest track that leaves to the left of the hut with a large carved wooden trough.
Follow this track to the Cabane de l'Escalette.
Before reaching this hut, on the left, you will easily recognise the Maladeta glacier topped by the Aneto (the white peak furthest to the left). Reach the Cabane de l'Escalette.
(1) Take a path on the right that quickly climbs to a pass to the left of the Pic de l'Escalette. A sign indicates the direction of Cagire. The path is marked in yellow. Reach the pass.
(2) Take the path on the left towards the Sommet des Parets.
(3) Continue downhill towards the Col du Pas de l'Âne. You may need to use your hands a little, as the steps are quite high. On the left, you can see the Pic du Gard and the Pic du Midi (overlooked by its observatory) in the background.
(4) Continue straight ahead towards Pic de Cagire (red and yellow markings). On the right, you will see the descent path (red and yellow, yellow cross).
(5) Pic de Cagire: about 3 hours after leaving the Col de Menté, breathtaking 360° view. Shortly before, on the right, there is a chasm (protected by a barrier). From the peak, watch the jackdaws dive into it. Set off again, heading back to the Col du Pas de l'Âne.
(4) At the pass, descend to the left towards the Larreix hut.
(6) Larreix hut: pass under this hut, next to a drinking trough, then continue towards the forest track and join it.
(7) Follow a well-marked path to the right that climbs through the woods. It joins a forest track, which you then follow to the right until you reach the Col de Menté (S/E). This track may seem long at the end of the walk as it is exposed to the south.
