Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the bottom of the resort.

(S/E) Join the main road (D44j) and turn left onto it. Continue to the end of the road at the top of the resort.

(1) At the information sign, take the track branching off to the left.

(2) Look out for the return track on your right and carry on straight ahead. Just after that, pass under the Tuc de Pan chairlift and look out for a faint track on the right.

(3) Take this track, which climbs in a somewhat uneven manner.

(4) Just before the Étang de Boutève, take the track that climbs to the right and leads you further along a ridge where you’ll rejoin the yellow markings.

(5) Take the path on the right, which leads you to the top station of the Tuc de Pan chairlift, offering a stunning panorama. Walk a few metres further to reach the Tuc de l’Étang, where a magnificent 360° view awaits you (picnic table at the summit).

(6) Begin the descent, heading west (the route is still marked in yellow), and reach a junction of paths after the Tuc d’Arrajou.

(7) Turn right onto the path which, after a hairpin bend, enters the woodland. Take care on this section and keep a close eye out for the irregular yellow markings. Further on, leave the forest and rejoin the track from the start of the walk.

(2) Turn left to reach the information board.

(1) All that remains is to follow the same path as at the start, but in the opposite direction, to bring this pleasant outing to a close (S/E).

Following the advice of a station employee when we were unsure at point 2, we did the route 1-2-7-6 and back. This avoids the chairlift area and ski slopes or access routes to the facilities, allows you to climb more steadily through the forest and then out into the open, and enjoy the fabulous view promised once you leave the forest.
The icing on the cake was a vulture that landed on a rock just below the Tuc d'Arrajou and let us approach to within a few metres before flying away before our very eyes!

One of the most beautiful walks we did this week. It's a bit of a climb, but it's worth the effort! At the highest point of the walk, there's an extraordinary 360° view of the snow-capped peaks of Spain. We regretted having our picnic a little before the summit, especially since there is a picnic table at the top.
We returned to the station with a stop for some delicious waffles at the La Grange café.

A lovely walk with a superb view from the top
Please note: this walk is rated as easy, but it’s quite a steep climb at the start (up to point 5 or so), and consequently quite a steep descent at the end. There are no technical difficulties, but you do need to be reasonably fit! Some of the people who came with us had to give up… Something to bear in mind
It took us about 2½ hours, taking our time
