Description of the walk

From Arvieux, take the D902 towards Col d'Izoard to Brunissard. At the entrance to the village, take the small road on the left that follows theGR®5towards Pré Premier, Chalets de Clapeyto. Pass the campsite and park at the next car park at Pré des Vaches.

(S/E) From the car park, head west following theGR®5(red and white markings). Follow the track that joins the Rivière torrent at Pré Premier, then climbs in hairpin bends to an altitude of 2,142 metres (direction sign).

(1) At the sign, leave the track and climb to your right (north-west) via theGR®5towards the Col des Ayes. You will see the pass with the Pic de l'Aiguiller to its left and the Pic de Beaudouis to its right.

(2) At Col des Ayes, follow the ridge to the right (east then north-east). Pass under two small gendarmes before reaching a plateau on the western ridge of Pic de Beaudouis.

(3) Head east-southeast and take the path that crosses the imposing west-southwest face of Pic de Beaudouis. This path takes you to the southern ridge of the peak, which you will need to climb, following the cairns to the summit.

(4) The return journey follows the same route in reverse. However, it is possible to cut across the middle of the traverse by descending directly south into the scree without going back via the Col des Ayes (remain cautious in the scree). Return to the car park where you started (S/E).

A beautiful, pleasant hike with no difficulties. Steep at the end.
Thank you.

A very short hike for the elevation gain, it climbs continuously... There is a short section without a clearly marked trail on the ridge after the pass, but the trail on the west-southwest side is visible from afar, so there is no risk of getting lost. The final ascent is steep, especially on the descent, and it is easy to slip.

Yes, you can climb via Les Ourdéis, but it's even steeper, so it's no longer a hike.
But of course, it's fine on skis in winter.

Done twice: once with family, roughly following your itinerary, without cairns at the time, and another time alone, starting from L'Echaillon, straight up the western slope of Alpailiar to join your itinerary when it heads north, following the advice of friends from Brunissard who own a chalet in L'Echaillon, and after a well-lubricated lunch with them, hence the rest
In the last left-hand bend of your route before the summit, there is a corridor that branches off to the right. I went down there, then straight down the south face. I thought it was scree and gravel, a great descent running on my heels. Not at all! Concrete! IMPASSABLE, but once I had started, there was no way to climb back up this terrain and this very steep slope.
It took me a good two hours to descend, much to the chagrin of my friends who, after their dinner in Brunissard (at 6pm sharp), had gone back up to see where I was!

According to these friends, who are hunters, there is another access to the summit via the Col des Ourdeis, turning left and climbing up a corridor of yellow earth.

Magnificent view. A slightly steep finish, but well worth the effort!
Still lots of flowers.
