Coming from Perpignan on the N116, drive alongside and then cross the Vinça reservoir (or lake) via thefirst road on the right (D13) and continue to Tarerach. Park in the church car park (signposted) on the left just before leaving the small village. You can also get there from Ille-sur-Têt, Montalba-le-Château (D2) or Tarerach (D17). Park in the church car park (toilets, table, games, etc.).
Yellow and red markings for the GRP® Tour des Fenouillèdes
(S/E) Head towards the church, go around it on the left and turn right, then right again. Look for the GRP® markings. Go down Rue des Mimosas, cross a road (Rue de la Mairie) and head south on a wide grassy path (Rue des Lauriers). Pass a water catchment and continue straight ahead along a pretty path lined with high walls. At the unmarked galvanised steel post, leave the path on the left and continue straight ahead for a few metres.
(1) Cross the Tarerach River and you will come to another fork. Pay attention. Go up to the right on a very steep, rutted path. Further up, look for a stone on the right with the markings (replaced) and make a wide right-left turn to go around the wall. Continue up the very steep path and you will reach a relatively flat area much higher up, at an unnamed pass. There is a small power line and a four-way junction.
White and red markings for the GR®36
(2) Turn right onto a zigzagging forest path that climbs and descends to finally reach a wider cross path (altitude 724 m). There are numerous markings and crosses.
(3) Climb to the right along this path, which remains almost flat, and reach a fork with a steep track climbing to the right (altitude 739 m). Stay on the GR®36, which heads north, climbing slightly. You will arrive at a left-hand bend (west) at a slightly marked fork (altitude 740 m).
Off the marked trail
(4) Leave the GR®36. Climb steeply to the right along this pretty forest path and join a narrow, very rocky track (altitude 780 m).
(5) Turn left, northwest, climbing up this small track which turns into a path. Come out higher up on a wider and relatively flat track. Arrive at a fork in three tracks (altitude 860 m). From this spot, there is a beautiful landscape stretching as far as the eye can see.
(6) Continue left, northwest on the small maintained track. Look for a shooting range on the left, then a marker marked with the number 8! Continue for 200 m to a small track suitable for vehicles (elevation 852 m). From this point, there are beautiful landscapes for several kilometres.
(7) Turn right onto this track. Follow the Roc du Curet on your left and 300 m further on, the tracks on the IGN map are overgrown with vegetation. Follow the correct track, which turns right and then left (OSM map), and you will reach the edge of the forest. Ignore the track that branches off to the left and continue straight ahead for 50 metres until you reach a fork in the road with three tracks. Pay attention.
(8) Leave the track suitable for vehicles on the right. Continue straight ahead on a small, narrow, grassy track that is almost flat for 200 m. Then it becomes stony, very rutted and descends steeply.
(9) Walk along Pic Arnau on your right. Continue downhill for about 130 metres until you reach a right-hand bend in this damaged track. Continue straight ahead for 150 metres along a wide, flat path where low vegetation is growing back. You will come to a small grassy track crossing the path.
(10) Follow it to the left to reach another track a little further down. Follow this track to the left as well and cross a bridge over a stream. Immediately after, look for a fairly wide path on the right.
(11) Turn right, north onto this path and join a small tarmac road. There is a lightly structured agricultural building on the left, badly damaged by the storm in mid-February 2026, and a tree has fallen on the telephone line.
(12) Follow it to the left until it ends at a left-hand bend.
(13) Leave the access to the Mas de Séquières farmhouse on your right, turn left for a few metres and you will find a small grassy track on your right that leads up to the ruins of the old hamlet, which are clearly visible (sheepfold and large church). The buildings are unsafe and access inside is dangerous. This is a very beautiful spot for a lunch break with a lovely view.
(14) Continue south-east, passing by the fortified square-shaped structure with its high walls and arrow slits. The buildings are unsafe and access inside is dangerous.Inside, you can see two large square columns, which were probably used to support the roof!
Find a pretty path that turns into a small track heading south and join a fork in three tracks.
Light and sparse markings with small red dots.
(15) Turn left, heading due east, onto a track (marked with small red paint spots) until you reach a fork.
(16) Leave the access to Cortal Plaqué (Bergerie Plaqué) on your left, with wooden posts at the entrance to the access track. Climb slightly opposite until you reach a crossroads of four tracks.
(17) Ignore the track coming from the farmhouse on the left, as well as the one on the right and a track leading to Cortal Bascou. Continue straight ahead, turning left north-west, then north-east. Then stay on the track. Enjoy the scenery. Much further on, join the D2 and follow it to the right to the Col d'Auzines and its large car park (altitude 603). Very beautiful viewpoint.
Yellow and red markings for the GRP® Tour des Fenouillèdes
(18) With your back to the car park, set off opposite on the D13, which climbs slightly, heading south-east towards Tarerach. After the right-hand bend, pay attention.
(19) Leave a small road that climbs to the right (Sequere) and the D13. Turn left onto a very small tarmac road, still on the GRP®, passing by a sheepfold in poor condition. After a wide right-hand bend on this small road, you will come to a fork (directional signpost).
Yellow and red markings for the GRP® link
(20) Leave the GRP® Tour des Fenouillèdes on your left and continue straight ahead along an overgrown track that descends (GRP® link). Further on, the old tarmac ends and gives way to a small track that quickly becomes a pleasant path. Ford a small stream and turn left heading south. Leave a track on your left (elevation 544) and you will come to a large fork. Pay attention (there are no markings in this direction).
(21) Turn completely right, and 20 m further on, look for the GRP® markings on a tree on the right. Further on, enjoying the scenery, reach the small village of Tarerach (S/E).
