Peacock Island in the Wannsee

Short round trip across the picturesque Peacock Island in the Wannsee. In addition to the beautiful landscape, there are also interesting buildings to discover, such as the dairy farm and the castle. You can also observe the peacocks that live here, some of which roam freely on the island, while others live in aviaries.
Please note: There is a charge for the ferry to the island.

Description of the walk

Starting point of the hiking tour: last signposted car park on Nikolskoer Weg towards Pfaueninsel

(S/E) We start from the car park heading north-west and turn right at the next turn. The road leads down to the Zur Pfaueninsel inn. At the end, we turn left.

(1) We have reached the small ferry landing stage. We buy a ticket from the ticket machine (where you can also find a map and information about the island) and then take the ferry to Pfaueninsel. Once on the island, we turn right. We pass a toilet block.

(2) We pass the frigate shed and shortly afterwards the supplementary rose garden. On the forest path, we encounter peacocks living in the wild. We turn left at the next turn. We pass the nursery and continue to the rose garden.

(3) At the end of the rose garden, we turn right, then take the second right again. At the fork in the path, we keep to the right and turn left at the end.

(4) You have reached the fountain. Next comes the water bird pond. Here, turn right and then left at the end.

(5) We walk around the aviary, which is home to peacocks, golden pheasants and silk chickens, among other birds. We then follow the path south. We pass an aviary with white peacocks and reach a house where we turn left. At the next crossroads, we turn right and walk past the beaver pond. At the next crossroads, we turn right. We pass a horse pasture with a view of the Wannsee.

(6) We have reached the dairy farm. More interesting buildings follow. In the adjacent pasture, we discover some water buffaloes. We turn left at the third turn.

(7) You have reached the sunbathing lawn, the perfect place for a break. There is also a kiosk here that offers delicious food at reasonable prices. Then follow the path past the toilet block. At the end, turn left and shortly afterwards you will pass the stately Kavalierhaus. Turn right at the next turn, then left. Pass the llama fountain, take the second right, then the next right, and at the end turn left.

(8) At the castle, we turn left, then take the second right through the Runden Garten, which we leave straight ahead.

(9) The Schweizerhaus offers a beautiful view of the Wannsee. We turn around, turn right and shortly afterwards we are back at the ferry landing stage. We take the ferry across. We return to the car park via the familiar route (S/E).
